100% of the new payees I have set up have required phone authorisation and I do tend to set them up with some regularity as I churn through current accounts. When was the update to which you refer?

That's my experience, too. I have had 4 Lloyds, 3 Halifax and 3 BOS current accounts for some time (and not to mention my 5 TSB ones that use the same mechanism), and I always without fail receive a 4-digit code via the phone when setting up a new payee.

The OP would have to provide a more coherent story for any newspaper to consider printing it. They would also approach Halifax, and perhaps TT, over it, so they have an opportunity to present their version of events.

Perhaps I'm being cynical but something doesn't ring true about any of this.
  • As I recall only those special payees which are on the Banks "authorised list" do not require a phone call authorisation procedures to be followed to be to set up.

I think this is limited to company collection accounts - and that similar sort of thing.
    I've seen it once.
