  • Hi everyone

Glad you are enjoying the new job Ally and bad news about the car MMM, still I suppose it could have been worse.

I gave up facebook too for the same reasons as Bob. I also found that I was just becoming too bogged down with the minute details of other people's lives. I mean do you really need to know what an old school friend is having for breakfast?

My bad habit is internet shopping. We live in the middle of nowhere so no decent shops locally. I used to regularly convince myself that we needed things and order them. Then find out they didnt fit/werent what I wanted but take ages to send them back. I am more or less cured of this. I think.

So DFW efforts. My DH wanted vitamins and I got a big box reduced from £11.99 to £3.00. Then went to the pet shop and got dog food reduced because the packaging was damaged. Off to the supermarket and bagged some YS fruit. Very happy.

Washing dried on the line, done some light washing up by hand rather than using the DW. Used my manual carpet sweeper to do the floors.

Finances spreadsheets done. Going to walk the dog next and do a bit of cleaning.

Oh we bought some bits for the house on 0% from Arg*s. Need to set up a regular payment to make sure it is paid off in the 12 months.

    Afternoon all,
    Thanks Ziggy for the start.
Lovely to see the thread so busy today!
Re time online, I am also like Bob & ditched fb back at Easter (but then seem to have replaced fb with MSE!)

    Today's list
    > Walked the boys to the bus stop this morning
    > Washed a load at 30 degrees on the quick wash
    > Hung above washing on the line
    > Filled water bottle at the gym
    > Did 30 min gym class (saving £15/week on PT sessions)
    > Needed to collect an item from the sorting office so arranged to pop in on a friend in the same area & had a lovely catch up and two free cups of coffee :)
    > Ordered kids some lego for xmas from tesc0 direct, ordered 2 large sets costing £78.99 in total (wouldn't usually buy them a big set) but they have an offer on at the minute to spend £75 on leg0 and get a bonus of 1500 clubcard points which we will convert into days out tokens to the value of £60 - So really the leg0 works out to be less then £20 if that makes sense!

    Still to do
< Don't take purse to swimming lessons :j
    < Check banking :j
< Check FPL :j must check again later
    < Check luckyphone :j
< Tidy fridge to make the most of left overs for tonights meal :j
< Book online shop for tomorrow :j
    < Reading with Ds2 :j
< Ironing if I get chance
    > Filled in online survey on the bottom of m&s reciept

    Have a good day all.

Ally - I know what you mean about giving yourself permission not to multi-task. I had definitely gotten to the point where I really believed that if I wasn't going full pelt at all hours of the day that I was lazy and useless. I started doing less and a lot of that horrible anxiety and the constant knot in my stomach has definitely eased up. I found that the knock on effect is that I actually started making even better decisions about my health and wellbeing. It's definitely a cycle.

I have read many times that multi-tasking is a bad idea. It is only now that I've decided to act on my belief that it is not good for us.
"A study at the University of London found that participants who multitasked during cognitive tasks experienced IQ score declines that were similar to what they’d expect if they had smoked marijuana or stayed up all night." The rest of the article is here. (Link)

Savvy Shopper! I've been Money Tipped!
    Hi Again

Really interesting to read everyones views on the online thing. Its nice to go off at a tangent sometimes on here isnt it :)

MMM - I really am sorry about your car, but as you say it could have been much much worse. Where I come from there have been drivers faced with a deer leaping out of woods into their path & it has been fatal. Obviously the damage you have had, and the shock for your OH are both serious in any case, but...good luck getting it all sorted out.

Ziggy - Hope you enjoyed your quiet day :)

CCL - Get well soon :)

Ally - Poor OH and her teeth. It all sounds very painful & unplesant. Glad you have survived your week though.

Determined - I just wanted to say, I dont know if you are spending as much time on line as you think. From your posts, you do loads of fun things with your Dgd, go for walks in the woods, spend time with friends and other kids, so, it may be you just feel you are online a lot, just a thought. Have fun at your drinks tonight :)

Dawn - Dont beat yourself up too much on any small weight gain, its seasonal isnt it too, arent we supposed to gain a little over winter to help sustain us?

Pippi - Hope you got through your list ok :)

Carrie- I think its a difficult one. Sometimes you do need to work flat out, but often especially in corporations, a lot of people are just taking up air time with meetings, presentations, stakeholder manangement blah blah etc. And that is not useful or productive behaviour. But it is what management seem to value..or am I just a bitter ex rat racer.? There is some saying by someone far wiser than me anyway along the lines of 'self employment, working 100 hours a week, so you dont have to work 30 for someone else' feels like that a lot of my time! ;)

Twigs - Well done on your NSD total, hat trick by tommorow?

Foxgloves - I love how PAD is becoming a daily thing for you, brilliant :)

Moonbeam - Get well soon :)

Yorkshire - The whole needs vs wants thing is complex isnt it.
Hannah - The lego sounds a great investment, for 2 boys who love lego :)

Well. I am well and truly ready for tommorow to be over and done with. Today and yesterday have both been full on to the max, with very busy periods, & after working every day in a row for 11 days, I am done. I really wish tommorow was Saturday, but it will be soon enough :)

I wont post a list today I dont think, its all rear view mirror stuff now anyway. Off for a hot bath & unwind.

    Bob

Ohhh I am liking the idea of giving yourself permission not to multi task. I've been getting so into the money saving thing and find that coming on here helps keep me focus, but yeah I have to be careful or I find myself on here when I should be working!!! (Oops).

So I'm late but MSE things I have done today:
    - filled in some surveys, I'm up to £8 on inboxcash (or whatever it's called!!)
    - carried on with my paid experiment. Only 4 more days left thank goodness!
    - sent letters to all banks about charges over the last 6 years. Not sure this will go anywhere but worth a shot!
    - been to tesco & coop on the yellow sticker hunt. Got some bargains, plus I get 10 % NUS discount at the coop making things even better value. This was a slight indulgence but the OH really wanted it; £35 whiskey for £17.50 in coop plus my discount = £15.75
    - we are having a house warming a week tomorrow. It's a bit late, but me and the OH only moved in together in May so we have been meaning to do something to celebrate and things kept coming up. So today I have been pricing up cheap booze for it on Asda. £3.35 for 10 beers & £2 for cider, £3 for wine are my best finds so far. I know it's not a necessity but condidering we could easily spent £150 between us on a night out this is atleast a night that is being budgeted and planned carefully. I still feel a bit guilty though :/

  • Evening :D
As you can all see, my online time is limited to about 10 minutes at the beginning of the day and an hour or two at the end. When I am at work, I am at work and I don't go online at all - I have my phone in case of emergency but it rarely leaves my desk all day. Weekends I am a bit more lax, but I always make sure that I get my other stuff done before I have my relax time on here.
So, I had completely forgotten about another open evening at a local school - we've been, and it's the last one because I've now submitted her application so there's no point going to any more. Got home at half past 8, washed up, hoovered, put washing on, made lunches and somewhere between 4pm and then I have lost a fiver. I cannot believe it. It was given to me at 4pm in return for hearts and lungs I had brought into work. It was a Scottish fiver, because I remember wondering if I'd need to bank it or if I could spend it - and I thought I'd put it in my purse except there's no sign of it there. Grrrrr!
Still loaded with cold as well - thank goodness the weekend is approaching.

:( post letters that are STILL waiting :mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
[STRIKE]:( check banking (no PAD before payday)[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:( return the shoes I bought that don't fit[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:( teaching 4 lessons[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:( NSD[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:( meals from stores (if I feel like it)[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:( mark a set of books - ideally 2[/STRIKE]
[STRIKE]:( 15 mins housework and declutter[/STRIKE]
    [STRIKE]:( stay hydrated[/STRIKE]

I'm sorry just to check in and run, but I'm literally going to write my diary then go to sleep. This cold has knocked the energy out of me. See you all tomorrow.

You can spend it if the shopkeeper is willing to accept it. My experience is that a lot of shopkeepers will refuse Scottish notes. (Link)
