Thursday 24th September - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important! :money:

  • Good morning everyone - thanks Ziggy for starting us off.
    Still feeling rubbish with this cold. The good news is that I don't feel like eating so hopefully I will at least be losing a pound or two on the weight front. I was up a few times during the night with runny nose/congestion/cough. Thankfully, Thursday is a less busy day at work than my other days. Small list today because I want to make sure that I don't overdo it and burn myself out.
    :( post letters that are STILL waiting
    :( check banking (no PAD before payday)
    :( return the shoes I bought that don't fit
    :( teaching 4 lessons
    :( NSD
    :( meals from stores (if I feel like it)
    :( mark a set of books - ideally 2
    :( 15 mins housework and declutter
    :( stay hydrated

    Morning DFW-Ninjas,

    Thanks for the starter Ziggy.

    It's been an interesting working week. Enjoyed it; stayed sane; earned a wage! And made some big lifestyle changes which will hopefully benefit my health and my wallet.

    * No more checking Facebook and emails 100 times a day.
    * Less multi-tasking.
    * More time off the internet.
    * Less pressurising myself.
    * More relaxation.
    * More belief in myself.
    * Giving myself permission to say "no".

    Debt-Free Nillionaire Month 4:

    * Increased savings for Australia from 1p to £1. That's a 9900% increase. :rotfl:

    * Some of our underpaid Housing Benefit arrived.

    * Today is D-Day for my OH who is getting her broken bridgework removed. That means four teeth/post will be removed. :( On the positive side we won't be in any state to go out spending today and I can pick up the electric toothbrush I won in the dentist's competition! And she won't feel like eating much today so that's a saving too. Dentist has delayed treatment by a fortnight. :( We'll still be eating the post-operative ice-cream.

    * Doing one week of GfK Media surveys to earn £5 voucher.

    * Check broadband allowance.

    * It is absolutely pouring out. Incentive to stay away from the village shop.

    * Repaid the £10 I borrowed from OH's New Camera Fund.

    * Re-jig budget. This is necessary on an almost daily basis as we are still receiving dribs and drabs of benefits due us and no-one has been able to clarify what exactly we'll be paid when!

    * Check all loyalty points.

    * Re-pay the £20 we borrowed on the 0% credit card for two days to pay our rent. When the benefits underpayments have been made and my salary is coming in regularly we will not be making this occasional borrowings. I am not going to chastise myself about this. It is planned, responsible, free, temporary borrowing to prevent us getting into trouble for non-payment of our rent.

    * Do i-Say surveys.

    * Free £1.50 Holland and Barrett voucher arrived.

    * Call Jobcentre. They've sent me a P45 with the wrong tax code on it. One that means I'll pay too much tax. The law says it's their responsibility to sort it. They say it's HMRC's responsibility. Here we go again!

    * Re-applied for Marriage Allowance. (Link)

    * Completed updated Finances Spreadsheet having been very good and not obsessed and only having gone through it once this week.

    Catch you later folks.

  • Morning guys :wave: hope everyone is chipper :p the weather here is grey & dull and forecast to rain all morning. The weather is so changeable at the moment! Yesterday it was a beautiful warm sunny day!

    Anyway small plans for the day:

    * check banking
    * probably a NSD but might pick up a bottle of wine...
    * email guy about picking up mini micro scooter I bought yesterday off of fleabay (dgd's Christmas gift from me :T £15 instead of £60+ to buy new :D)
    * email friend who lives quite near to where the scooter is to see if I can combine popping in for a catch up while I'm that way
    * going to a friend's this morning for coffee and then hopefully going for a walk in the woods (and might even do some foraging if I'm lucky :D)
    * doing a ms assignment today have a bit of a drive to it but am getting paid £25 :T
    * need to wrap & post fleabay sale
    * onepoll and try to catch up with surveys
    * going to a friend's this evening to catch up with her and another friend (we all worked together about 13 years ago and still meet up several times a year). My friend is putting on drinks and nibbles and has said to me not to bring anything as she knows I'm not working/haven't got a lot of money.... Might pick up a bottle though...
    * do a crazy hour of cleaning. Today is the last day this week I won't have little one so be good to get sorted before the weekend descends...

    Ok think that's all I need to do! Have a great day everyone x

    Mprning all.

    THank you for letting me know it was BOB who asked about womble land!! Must be something in the air as I'm trying to do this too, less internet and f/b.

    I now don't switch my phone on at work anymore and I have my internet before and after work. I tell the family I can check all messages/calls etc at lunchtime then its off again.

    When I was doing my PhD I had to switch off the internet box for a few hours every day. Yes I was that addicted to MSE!!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

    Morning all :)
    Thanks for the start Ziggy.
    Pleased to hear that have an easier day coming up CCL
    Glad to hear that your new job is going well, Ally :)

    Today's list:
    So far -
    Put HG tomatoes roasted last night through the mouli to make tomato sauce / soup base
    Blueberries and raspberries from the garden with our breakfast porridge :D

    Still to do:
    Hoover carpets on middle floor / dust furniture Not done this :o
    Hoover and wash floors downstairs Or this -can't you just tell how much I love housework :rotfl:
    Visit market, need potatoes Done, also bought cheap figs (too expensive normally, so a treat :D)
    Watch what I eat, as I have put on a couple of pounds - don't want to creep back up to what I weighed before :eek: Hmm, at least I am thinking about it...
    Think of something for dinner, as my meal planning has failed again :o I have two freezers full up, there is bound to be something! :oI made burgers from some game meat and some pork belly from the freezer. Also a crumble using the best bits of 2 grotty apples, some woolly tasting pears from the fruit bowl and some blackberries that I sent OH up the road to pick :D
    Do any surveys that are available Done a couple for onepoll. Also checked the FPL.
    Clear at least one garden pot :)Done
    Fold yesterday's laundry and finish off in airing cupboard Done
    Dry new load of washing on line if it stays dry Done
    Chopped up some melon that has been lurking in the fridge - it will get eaten now!
    Tidied up a messy area of the back garden plus the pots in the front garden (as it was a nice day for a change!)
    Used some spring onions, cucumber and tomatoes from the garden :)
    Picked some more raspberries
    Harvested our first apples - just one good one which we shared, and a couple of half rotten ones. I cut the good bits off these and put them in the crumble. The apple tree is a baby one planted earlier this year, so I was surprised and pleased to have any fruit from it at all this year :)
    Collected prescription
    Sold a table in my unit :D Didn't get much for it, but at least it has gone - I am moving to a smaller space and wouldn't have room for it, so would have to bring it home (and I already have too many tables at home :eek:). Note to self - DON'T BUY ANY MORE TABLES!!!!
    Small bit of paperwork for my business

    Well, that doesn't seem a lot, but I am sure I will think of other things as I go along!

    Hope you all have a good day :)
