TalkTalk - price hikes

I have a fibre internet connection through TT - Started 8 months ago and this morning, I received an email from TT - informing me that my fibre connection would go up from £5 to £7.50 per month - that's a 50% rise
How can they get away with this ?
Surely - since I signed up at £5 per month - they have to stick to this amount and are not allowed to just raise it at will ?

Apparently you can leave them with no cancellation charge according to this article above.

Does anybody know if I could still take my phone number with me if I cancel?

(Cant post links but just stick www. in front)

Have you tried reading the terms and conditions you agreed when you signed with them, most included the right to increase prices at any time.
  • I too had the same email today.

I have their simply broadband package and for me their prices increased from £3.50 to £5.00 a month in June and now only 5 months later it is increasing again to £7.50. That's an increase in 5 months of 115%

They have also increased their call package prices ... I'm already looking elsewhere.

I'm expecting mine any day. Oct 1st newprice rise.?
I tried beating the line upfront rental, but, outside the 60 day rule.
I'm out of contract at present, and she tried to transfer me to another, which I declined, at present.
No point in contracts, when they are meaningless.
Been with them years.aol, cpw, now tt, so I'm expecting a hell of a hike.
I am on aol plat,£2 per month.have been on that for years, unlimited BB and calls anytime, plus line rental upfront.
The trouble is, everywhere else is the same.
I will wait an see, better the devil you know sometimes.
Looking at the board here, it seems all companies are giving agro.
