Specsavers glasses damaged by hairspray

I went to boots and fell for their tricks. Worst pair of gongs I ever bought. Coating is about as much use as a chocolate fire guard. Avoided since 2001.0

As a glasses-wearing female, I learned the hard way that hairspray removes the coating on specs when I was in secondary school.
I've bought glasses from all the major high street retailers over the years and not a single optician has warned me not to use hairspray. Don't really think this one can be pinned on Specsavers.
I also use hairspray to remove biro on clothes before washing them.0 -
No! Perfume removes ink too. Worked well when sprog tried to turn Sleeping Beauty into a Smurf by colouring her face. The amount of Chanel it took to remove it, it would have been cheaper to buy a new doll.

It's the alcohol content. Far cheaper to try surgical spirit/meths/isopropanol -- isopropanol "dissolves" biro ink, and CD-marker pen ink a treat.
I use it to clean my specs, but then I didn't let them upsell me flashy coatings that probably do nothing! Otherwise, I'd have the same problem as the OP.0 -
Just a note to say that if you have plastic lenses and the anti reflection coating is wearing off it places, you can easily restore them by stripping off the anti reflective/anti scratch coating using armor etch (google). I can vouch for it as i restored a pair of my specs using this to strip off the coating. Do not use on glass as it will ruin them !
Use with care..read the insructions, wear gloves, wear eye protection. I did mine in about 15 mins,,
Feudal Britain needs land reform. 70% of the land is "owned" by 1 % of the population and at least 50% is unregistered (inherited by landed gentry). Thats why your slave box costs so much..0 -
Spraying your hair whilst wearing glasses?
No, absolutely daft!Member #14 of SKI-ers club

Out of curiosity what is the recommended way of cleaning your glasses?0

I would shield my eyes, automatic reaction, although would not spray with glasses on either0

I tried some lens wipes from Home Bargains, but they were rubbish, dry as anything in the packet! I need to search out some better ones!0
