Oh sorry, got a bit carried away there........ I do know of a lady who was allowed to join an Amish family for a year. I read a book about her experiences which was very interesting. I love the way they live, but doubt very much that I could live like that, its a very hard life, but very rewarding.
Get carried away all you like - thanks so much for sharing with me
Can you remember the title or author of the book? I'd be very interested to read it ...
Done my notes on today's chapter of Almost Amish. Off for a chapter of C S Lewis now and then I think my brain will be tired
4am seems a long time ago but I'd determined to stay up till a reasonable bedtime. Had to put the heating on though - I'm shivery despite wearing plenty of clothes.Household: Laura + William-cat
Not Buying It in 20150 -
indeed the town we were in had several shops selling stuff that they used on a daily basis. The people we met we nothing but kindness itself to two english ladies. we had a ride in one of the horse and traps across the meadows and it really was like stepping back in time.Sadly we too couldn't take any photos but we respected their beliefs, even though there were some U.S. visitors there who didn't, and kept trying to sneak pictures.
The women seemed to personify serenity and calmness and the children were just adorable.Beautiful countryside and my friend and I had a fantastic meal with all home grown stuff which was delicious and additive free.
The one thing I wasn't keen on in the U.S. was the supermarkets and their fruit had very little taste. The GM-produced huge apples that looked beautiful but had very little taste at all.We often found as we were touring that roadside stalls where we stopped to buy stuff was often cheaper and nicer than the big Wallmarts.
I had an amazing three week touring holiday with my oldest friend (we did a OAP Thelma and Louise):) and visited the real heartlands of the States
Had a brilliant day at Bluewater with my friend and we went to the cinema and saw Legend Tom Hardy was very good as both of the Kray twins
Quiz night tonight so no cooking to do:):).Sociology class tomorrow morning
, busy week this week
Cheers chums ,and its still bloomimg raining0 -
One of the things I brought back was a knitted collar that the Amish men wear during the winter, my husband has worn it every winter since I gave it to him. What he will do when it waers out I really do not know. I might have to knit him another one.0
