Hi everyone,
'm running on adrenalin in the run up to the wedding, I hopr I'm not too tired to enjoy it. I was up at 1.30 am making small silk bunting flags to drape on one of the lunchtime street food stalls. I'm still sticking crepe paper fringe to a large B, having finished the L, making flags to go in cocktails and brownies for dessert after the pizza on Friday night (80 people will join us for that). Then there will be 120 at the wedding.
Must go and get ready, I'm supposed to have a haircut this morning but I don't want her to take anything off the length apart from at the back. Then I have to go and get more soft drinks, in addition to the stuff that's coming from Ocado tonight.
Have a good day.0 -
Good morning all,
We too had very heavy rain throughout the night, and we have missle now. I have some washing I must do so the TD will have to be used unfortunately.
We are popping to Mr T this morning for cat food and litter and some fresh salad (not for the cat:)) We had a lovely chicken casserole last night and I am thinking of making a lasagne today and will have the salad with that.
DGD1 has just gone off to work so we will go out shortly.
Elona congratulations to your DD you must be so happy for her.
TA, you hardly seem to be free from that infection. In this day and age wouldn't you think someone could find either a cure or an effective treatment for it. You have my deepest sympathy, I have had cystitus many times, but nothing compared to yours.
Have a good day

Jackie I too am fascinated by the life of the Amish and I watch any TV programmes. I admire their way of life, definitely not for me, but I think you probably have to be born to it.
They seem to have a calmness and tranquility about them.

TA
I can't believe they cannot come up with something to help you.
Trying to be polite but have you tried applying yoghurt?
Still on cloud nine with dd's new job :j
She and SIL are coming over tonight to celebrate with me and having a meal.I intended to make a huge pot of chicken and veg soup today and have the cooked chicken as another meal base and also make a large lamb (YS) spinach and potato curry with portions to freeze. SIL can't eat lamb so will either do a chicken dish for him or bake YS sea bass with veg in a foil parcel.
Just had a nice long shower and need to get dressed quickly in case of post or gardener arriving early.
Youngest has left me a parcel to post so will do that later. I have stocked up on frozen veg and fruit and got a good deal on a family pack from the local butcher as well as the YS meat and fish I have stocked up on earlier and a few SW friendly packs of soup and pasta and rice. The idea is that if weather turns bad, cold or slippy I don't have to go out. I intend to turn the fact that I am used to cooking for six or more into a virtue. I will still try not to cook too much unless it is freezable and then have several meals for dd who has her own home but works very long hours and studies as well.
Hugs to all"This site is addictive!"

Morning all.
Thinking of you TA with that UTI. Drink loads. Thats the only thing that helped me.
Was with Mom again last night till gone midnight. We watched TV together until bed time when she was dressed for bed and put to bed. She slept soundly, unlike the night before.
The dogs were kind to me this morning and let me have a lie in. I woke when youngest went to work then went back to sleep.
Another day in the house for me again today. I'm now going to start cutting back my visits to Mom. Going each day is physically and mentally draining me and she as she is so much better i cant see any reason why i should be going every day.
Onwards and forwards,
have a great day all. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Good morning everyone. It is grey and damp here today so unless it brightens up the washing will be dried in the conservatory.
I am going to clear out my kitchen cupboards today and make a list of my tin stock. I will probably have a sort out of the freezers too. Making a slow cooker chili today so there will be a choice of that or the lasagna I cooked yesterday for tea tonight.
Hope everyone has a good day x0 -
Hello all,
So wet out first thing, lots of huge puddles! DS2 was railroaded into taking his GF miles away this morning as she is on a course. Why she couldn't have got a train is beyond me. It's a 30 min journey on the train but took him over an hour to get there with the rain/accidents etc. She wants him to go and collect her this afternoon - I hope he says no.
Anyway complaint over.
Went to the butchers this morning and stocked up on some meat. Have made some pastry so we can have chicken pie tonight.
Off to work again shortly. Have a good day all0 -

PS <<<Bit of research into the Amish as they fascinate me.>>>
notjustlaura when I was in America a few years ago I went to a small town in Pennsylvania to see their lifestyle and it was fascinating.Whilst there my eldest DD rang my mobile to make sure I was OK and I said
" I'm fine Shelley, can't speak at the moment I'm in the middle of Intercourse watching some of the people "
She nearly had heart failure and yelled out WHAT The town is called Intercourse and didn't realise until I explained to her:):) She was at work and I could hear her saying to her friend What's my Mum up to for goodness sake. took her ages to forgive me as she is a lovely lass but not got a great sense of humour
:):):)

Oh, Jackie, that did make me laugh! I can just imagine your daughter's face
Candlelight, I think you're right about being born to it. I have no intention of giving up my laptop and mains electric. But I think there's an almost Amish path for those who want it. I read a book by that title a few weeks ago and it has really inspired me.
Successful morning for me. Flat's been cleaned and looks great. Got my shopping done in town, caught up on paperwork leaving myself one big job to do tomorrow. (Have to make my way through the NHS complaints procedure. Gosh, that's going to be fun!) Sorted out a bathroom drawer for my FlyLadying as the cleaner does the other bits. Decluttered some magazines. Cleaner also irons so have put the clothes away.
About to have lunch - HM soup of some description with HM bread.
Afternoon involves entering recipes into my ingredient index and then further Amish research.Household: Laura + William-cat

Afternoon, slept late this morning, but have made up for it since I got up, made tomato and bacon sauce to go with some pasta for tonight. Apple crumble, ring of scone and now a beef casserole for tomorrow night.
I have been interested in the Amish since I was a teenager. I was able to stay in Shipshewana, Indiana when I went to the US for the Paducah quilt show. My friend hosted me which was very kind of her. I could not have afforded to go otherwise. Whilst we were visiting Paducah we went to a small town that was hosting a quilt exhibition. The quilt shop had a wonderful quilt hanging up. I asked if I could take a photo of it and was told that I would need to get permissions from its owner, an Amish lady who lived locally. she set up a show of her work in a barn at her home. We got directions and thats how I became friendly with Ella Bontrager. I still treasure a chicken pincushion and white silk heart she gave me.
Her story was fascinating, briefly her husband Amos had a crippling heart attack when he was 29 and was unable to carry on working. Ella had 3 daughters to bring up. She and friends coped with the farm, in the evenings she and the girls sewed quilts. Amos cut the pieces and sewed some of them on the treadle machine they used. Ella and the girls hand quilted the quilts and the shop then sold them. It gave them very valuable extra money. The Amish do not pay taxes, and do not receive any benefits. A community will raise money to meet medical expenses. It is not uncommon for a quilt auction to be held to raise money for someone who is in need.
I wrote to Ella for a number of years. Her husband died and sadly I got news from Ella's daughter that she too, had passed away. I have pictures of her house and the exhibition, but none of Ella or her husband, I acknowledged the fact that they considered photographs of them were classed as a graven image, which was forbidden.
Their home was very simple, but beautiful and very peaceful, no electricity, phone but they did have running water. and laundry was done with a hand operated washing machine, which looked a bit like a compost tumbler, operated by a handle which you turned.
Oh sorry, got a bit carried away there........ I do know of a lady who was allowed to join an Amish family for a year. I read a book about her experiences which was very interesting. I love the way they live, but doubt very much that I could live like that, its a very hard life, but very rewarding.0
