Rock Law

Options
Need a bit of advice, my elderly father who is a pensioner has fallen for a PPI scam i think. The company is Rock Law and it doesn't look good. He was sent a letter and phone calls and signed up with them. He signed a form online for them to look for PPI for him. They called and said he had to pay around £400 as this was now a procedure. He asked why he had to pay up front and was as other PPI aliments had received there pay out and not given Rock Law there share. So he agreed to the payment and they took £490 from his account which is more then he thought it was. He said when they are on the phone its very hard to say know and he just agreed to what they said. I believe this to be there heavy sales technique. This was back in June. He has since not heard anything from them and has not received any money. How can i get my Father out of this and get back his money?

• Send a complaint to:

ROCK LAW LIMITED

Suite A,
2nd Floor,
Princess House
Princess Way
Swansea
SA1 3LW.

It should include a letter confirming your father has appointed you to act on his behalf (signed by him) and a letter from you alleging pressurised selling to a vulnerable person and advanced fee fraud.

Keep copies and obtain (and hang on to) proof of posting (free from the Post Office). If you do not get a satisfactory outcome within 9 weeks, go to the Legal Ombudsman.
• Thanks for your help. Are there any templates for this as i dont even know how to go about writing such a letter?

I am sorry to hear about the problems your father is having.

You can find out more information about how to make a complaint to the Claims Management Company (CMC) on our website at http://www.legalombudsman.org.uk/cmc/. On this web page we have a handy template that gives you an idea of how to write your formal complaint.

Alternatively, we can pass on details of your complaint to the CMC and they will then respond to your father directly. If you would like us to do this, please do not hesitate to call us on 0300 555 0333. It would be helpful if your father was present to confirm his authority for you to act on his behalf.

Rock Law are notorious for skanking the vulnerable.

They are (at long last) under investigation by the Regulator https://www.claimsregulation.gov.uk/details.aspx/30794

You need to report this to them as it may help your situation contactus@claimsregulation.gov.uk

We have been dealing with a number of complaints regarding Rock Law Ltd and we have now been made aware that this CMC is no longer trading. If you have a complaint against Rock Law Ltd, or are waiting for a response to a complaint, we can now accept these and you do not need to contact Rock Law Ltd first.

You can find a complaint form available on our website http://www.legalombudsman.org.uk/cmc/#download-form or you can contact us on 0300 555 0333.

That's the paradox. If MOJ remove their authorisation they no longer have any jurisdiction over them.

They're no longer trading (their site's down) and given that the they only made £24k in their last year of trading there's not much hope of them surviving and paying the fine.

However, interestingly, another notorious Swansea CMC (Client Connection Ltd) who went into administration and then liquidation a few years ago after MOJ banned them from taking up-front fees is to be reinstated so that newly appointed administrators can properly investigate the murky goings on and find out what happened to all the loot.

• Do we know who Rock Law's insurers are?

I suspect Rock Law will now go bust and its victims may need to use the Third Parties (Rights Against Insurers) Act 2010 to seek redress.

It is not surprising they have stopped trading.

Quite apart from the fine, they are going to have to record cold calls - that, in turn means they must tell consumers they are doing it because the ICO will require that. If they do not tell the consumer then, in the event of a complaint, the recording will have to be passed to LeO and they will spot it. That will mean the breach is likely to be reported - and the complaint upheld.

Effectively their business model has been blown apart.

Lets hope this is an indication of things to come and that the owners will not be allowed to phoenix their businesses.
