Five OS Pleasures in your day today

After watching the pennies for all of my adult life. After being considered very odd for the way we lived our lives, by most of our friends. After years of embarrasing the children with our frugal/strange ways. The old man and I were able to retire early. 50 for me 60 for him. Those same friends are still chipping away at the coal face.
We meanwhile are enjoying every single second of our time, and probably getting even more eccentric in our money saving ways! As said by others it is a game really, albeit a very enjoyable one IMHO.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
Reverbe - I do so feel for you in your lonely state, I am not good a being alone for too long and am so glad that is going to be a thing of the past when DH retires on Friday. Because I can be so miserable when at home too much I was concerned that he might find the transition from the world of work a little difficult to handle. We have contrived for him to help as a volunteer at a local hospital. There are a range of tasks he can help with i.e. guiding patients to departments, ward clearing for meals, pushing the 'shop' trolley round the ward, gardening, clerical and many more. Would there be a hospital near you where you could find your niche? This one is crying out for volunteers.
Ampersand - I'm getting really worried that I may have missed the elderflowers as everyone seems to have done theirs.
Today's pleasures:-
1. A nice (hm) scone at home with cappucino before going shopping - no more expensive indulgence.
2. Just one whoopsied pork joint today, saving me80pence. Disappointing, but every little helps.
3. Planting out some sun daisies given to me by my friend.
4. Chicken and sweetcorn rissoles for dinner tonight with homegrown potatoes, mange tout and baby carrots.
5. Just made last EVER packed lunch for DH to take to work, as he has a meal out on Thursday and finishes Friday lunchtime. WOW, I feel as if I have been released from slavery.

Bella - you won't have missed them. I see my tree has many sprigs still developing from the small 'broccoli' heads stage, while others are brown and starting to berry up.. Being here this year is allowing me to observe this sort of thing closely. I had imagined, if anything, that the blooming was an all-at-once affair - not so. So, gather away.CAP[UK]for FREE EXPERT DEBT &BUDGET HELP:

Good evening all,
Didn't post yesterday as it was a little crazy here but things have calmed down today thankfully. Reverbe - I'm sorry to read that you are lonely it can be so hard. I can second that our local hospital are desperate for volunteers too. Also there is a Blind and Partially Sighted Society & a local disabled elderly people charity that run befriending schemes and are always keen to recruit volunteers. Maybe there's something similar in your area? When we first moved here neither of knew a soul, I sat down one day with the Thomson local and looked through the charity section & rang them until one said yes we'd love to talk to you. I hope that something comes up for you soon.
Ampersand - I love reading your posts they are so interesting and make me think and question myself, it's great
My five for today are:
1. My first petunia flower has come through :T I planted 24 last week but the dog has trampled 5 of them already! It'll be the brave & tough ones that survive.
2. The children & DH declared my HM wedges that we had with tea to be better than ones they buy.
3. Watching Desperate Housewives repeats on E4 every day this week
4. It hasn't rained here for the past few days despite the dire weather forecasts.
5. Laughing at the antics of the dog & cats - they are extra work but bring me so much joy every day.
A pleasant evening to everyone & many blessings to come to all.0 -
Sunnygirl - your comment has so surprised me it really is a pleasure to close the evening with. I'm to early bed with hwb and book and a defeat in the 20/20 cricket just over. We robbed ourselves.
Hope your petunia doesn't eventually find herself singing THAT song........
reverbe - night-time gentleness to you and transforming dreams that carry into your waking hours.

1) DH has fixed the washing machine! Hallelujah! Cost of bits on EBay - £5, cost of same bits from (almost) local shop - £25. He got them both because we weren't sure if/when the EBay ones would come but it still is very cheap to have the washer back
2) Sunny enough evening to fill a few pots with "compost" from end of garden and plant a few bean seeds
3) Coffee with a friend after work. It was so refreshing to chat before going home to the chores
4) Was given a leather jacket at work today! It was passed on to a friend for her daughters, who didn't like it, so she thought of me!
Can't think of a 5th but it has been a nice day. Hug for Reverbe and I hope things get better for all those in need, whether posting or lurking0
