Don't "Just put your phone number on the top". Complete the section for name, address and most important National Insurance number. You'd be amazed how many fit notes are received without any of the above and they are sent straight back to the surgery for the name and address info. Only with that can the fit note be linked to the claimant.
Call your local JC to see if an appointment is required to drop the fit note in. I've mentioned previously that there was talk of scrapping the need to have an appointment to drop them in. JC staff should also be able to input the details into the system before they pass the fit note on to the processing office.
I've never been convinced that tracked / Special Delivery / Recorded Delivery does anything other than cost more. Everything goes to a central sorting location and from there to the processing office. It's that final step where the greatest risk of loss occurs and confirmation of receipt at the sorting location doesn't guarantee arrival at the processing office. Safest method is to take it to the Job Centre.
It shouldn't be necessary but, with the mountains of post received every days, things do go missing.0
