Hi everyone,

I sent my new fit note to DWP on the 15th September via first class as the other one expired on the 19th. I thought they would have received it by now because they usually text me within 2-3 days of me sending it. I haven't had any confirmation so I called them this morning.

They said they haven't received it yet and I should wait 9 days but I just get the feeling it has "gone missing in the post" it wouldn't be the first time this has happened when sending things to the DWP. they are also sending me a reminder letter to get a new fit note but I should just throw this away as I have already sent it. But if I throw it away I can't send them a new note if they don't receive this one

Now I am worried because I can't get in to see my DR until the 6th October. And my next payment day is due on 2nd of October.

I really don't know what to do. I really need the next payment as I have the gas and electric to pay on the 5th and i have only just managed to get myself out of debt with a DRO. I don't want to get back into arrears.

Please help

  • Did you photocopy the fit note before you sent it. If not it might be worth doing so in the future to avoid this stress. Give your GP a ring and see if they can leave a duplicate fit note out for you at reception. If you explain the reason ask nicely they may help.

Good luck and let me know how you get on xx

Can you call your doctors reception and ask them to print a duplicate fit note explaining what you said here.

If they give you a duplicate just take it for a job centre and they will send it directly to the benefit delivery centre, Just put your phone number on the top of the fit note and they will call you when they get it.

It doesn't really matter what way you send letters to DWP, It all goes to a sorting centre where they sort it out to what department the mail goes to. If you sent on the 15'th it would probably be to quick to think they have it.

As above, it's quite possible your note has still not been processed. In the future you should either take your note to the JCP (and ask for a receipt) or send it recorded delivery.
  • I will call the DRs later today and I will try. Thanks for the suggestions :)
  • I just called my Dr, they will write me a duplicate. So when i receive the next letter saying they haven't received it I should send it first class tracked?
  • Also worth taking a photo of it on your phone, if photocopying it is a pain. Don't just attach it from your phone, though, download to a computer, as this avoids possible charges for picture messaging.
Ex board guide. Signature now changed (if you know, you know).

Yes I was worried about that. I don't know anywhere locally with a photocopier. My boyfriend has a scanner but he lives in another city. I will take a picture email it to him and ask him to print it. Hopefully it will be sufficient evidence

As I said, Take the duplicate to the job centre and they will send it directly to ESA and they will get it the same day.
  • Ask the GP's receptionist to do a photo copy of future fit notes. I am sure that they will. Maybe worth sending future ones by recorded or special delivery. Things do get lost in the post. I still would allow 7 days for this to reach them.

I won't be able to get it there today, I was told to collect my note after 5.30 and i do have to make an appointment to see someone at the Jobcentre. They won't just let me walk in without an appointment. I have tried before but for a different reason.
