Monday 21st September - What small DFW things will you do today?

Hi all
I'm back again. Credit card is just getting out of control, I am so swayed by the Clubcard points but am almost glad they are reducing them come December as it won't be such an advantage spending on it.
I'm a little tempted to take out a loan to clear it but I know from past experience it's a really bad idea. I need to put my annual train pass on it at the start of December (as it is interest free) so I couldn't cut it up, but I shouldn't really be using it for anything else, yet I have managed to rack up £3500 on it. So angry with myself.
SO. I have just got myself a new 0% purchases card which will be used solely for my train ticket, and I am going to cut up the Tesco one and pay it off in full (eventually). However this will mean I will have a month where I can't use it for groceries etc. Could be a worry but I have a fully stocked kitchen and will just need fresh stuff weekly. A little challenge in itself!
Small things today:
Sold something on Ebay so that will go to the credit card
Pinecone survey done for £3 so again that will go to the credit card
B,L,D and snacks from stores
Use gym membership to go on cross trainer (although may just have a longer lunch break on Wednesday and go then as I'm leaving work in 2 hours and have only just eaten...)
Look for a new job.
Check banking - realised have effectively got double child benefit this pay month so have paid that off credit card too.
Think that's everything, have good days all.

Hi
Have chased KOBO, about the 6 month old lovely kobo glo which now has lines all over it. Sent photos and waiting for DD to send me photo of receipt, as she bought it for me in march to send as proof of purchase. Hoping they will send me a replacement. I totally love this, have over 50 books on it and use it daily. How would I live without this??
Have also arranged car shares to 2 conferences saving probably £100 of fuel.
Off for tea and then back to making work phone calls. Over 50 clients to contact in next few days. Pensions, such fun!0 -
Hi everyone
Washing dried over airer.
Went into L*dl and had a complete brain freeze over what I needed so I came out of there fast. I have to go past again later so will make a list.
DS has been awarded free prescriptions for low income so that's £25 coming back to us. This is a huge relief.
OH has just asked me if he can spend £10 on some new headphones, as his have broken. He is really getting on board now with this money saving stuff which is nice.
Tea in slow cooker. I am going to my gym class so need to have something before I go.
Right, best stop rambling and get some cleaning done!0 -
Hi again!
The skies cleared by early afternoon, so I got my OH to take me a few miles away & drop me & the dog off - we then walked home via country lanes. Just got back in & am sitting down with a welcome cuppa.
I came back with a few foraged freebies. Some damsons in an orchard were overhanging the path, also some hazel nuts. I see the damsons every year and they are always left to rot on the trees. We live in an area known for the fruit trees and so much is wasted. I passed a house earlier today where the owner had filled 3 bags with apples & put them out with the rubbish! They'd gone to the trouble of picking the fruit, so why not see if someone else could use it? Maybe take it the half mile to the church where there is a collection made for food parcels. Perhaps fresh food isn't allowed?
Anyway, rant over, but it does annoy me to see any food wasted.
My soup making didn't exactly go to plan, as the blender chose to fall apart - then, while I tried to fix it (I couldn't) I burnt the croutons! I can't really complain about the blender, as it was a 'basics' one bought several years ago from one of the supermarkets. I think the cost has worked out at about £2 a year.

Afternoon all,
Back from my parents' house at the weekend. Dad's surgery went really well but since he came out, it's been one problem after another for him & it's been more stressful for everyone than the actual op. Trying to catch up this week & not get too stressy. Several money saving bits today:
*Updated grocery budget to include yesterday's expenditure on Waitrose's reduced meat fridge. Three of the long pork loin joints for under £2 each (one was actually £1-12!), lamb mince & 2 packs of rib chops which I froze in 3 bags of 4.
*Had a look at September budget as have had extra expenditure. Iron died, closely followed by bloody lawn mower (£117) & I forgot about car tax when I set the budget.
*Did a quick project for a brands forum I'm on at the moment as it is apparently a guaranteed £5 payment.
*Labelled the 6 jars of jam I made yesterday with plums & apples which were gifted to us.
*Picked peppers & spring onions for tonight's dinner.
*Did rubber chicken - it did roast dinner last night. Divvied up leftovers for fajhitas tonight, something else - haven't decided tomorrow - some stew for the freezer, 2 packed lunches & all the gribbly bits are in the slow cooker for stock.
*Paid 9 x 50p pieces into my sealed pot. Beat that, mr f!!
*Started PAD-ing into our car fund as of today. Hope I can actually manage this every day. I may set a lower target for the first month while I get used to it. Got off to a good start, anyway, as Mum insisted on giving us £100 for the car fund as a thank-you for helping them out with all the hospital transport, etc, last week.
*Re-listed 2 items on ebay.
*Laundry dried on heated airer overnight. Grrrr to having that on, but I'd seen the weather forecast for today & knew I wouldn't be pegging washing out. Repeat performance tonight with another load by the looks of things.
*Updated my energy meter reading spreadsheets.
*Made tomorrow's packed lunch & work snacks.
That's it, I have to go out tonight. Hopefully more money saving tomorrow.
Haven't had time to catch up properly with what you've all been doing, so if anyone's been up to anything truly outrageous, you'll have to let me know.

Good afternoon everyone, hope you all had a good weekend
Thank you for starting DNMS
Bob - Glad you're feeling a bit better today
Twiggy - thank you will have to give my self a kick up the bum and give circuits a go!!
Ally - good to hear your first day at your new job went well
CCL - so sorry for your loss
Been a busy little bee this morning, been ringing around ever where to let them know we're moving and changing addresses on things. Glad the TV licence and the water could be done online!!
Done most things just need to do car insurance but as we're still living at the old property and waiting for our no claims bonus to come though (long story) I'll do it all at once instead of making another million phone calls.
So here's what I've done/going to do today:
- Packed some more boxes for move
- Phone utilities to change address
- Took colleague home from work in my break (don't normally do anything anyway) and earned £5 and some cookies RESULT!!
- Pick up some brown tape for moving from FB selling pages (6 rolls for £2!!)
- Breakfast/Lunch/Dinner from stores (already cooked dinner for when I get home)
- Give cat litter tray a good wash (not a nice job)
- Put bins out
- Gave away old arm chair and other bit I no longer needed
- No make up day (thats 4 days in a row!!)
- 2 loads of washing done and hung up to dry
- Check FPLRead my diaryHere0 -
Hey all busy old day with me.
Hens fed (uncooked) and are nicely providing 3 eggs today.
Dugs fed and scampered about
Did an extra hour at the garden today taking parcels of snowdrops to the post office, mail order has started again. I'm not complaining more happiness flying about the world.
Picked the left over chicken and got more meat that I had even expected so I think it will do two teas and will repick after boiled bones are strained too, you know just to make sure.
That's all bubbling away right now to make gravy/soup.
Rice has defrosted and I've done some quorn and rice for tomorrows lunch.
On way home from PO did a reduced run
79p 750g cornflakes
39p square wraps (you know the ones)
39p loaf of bread
valoo tomato ketchup (himself likes it a bit tart anyway) and got some washing powder, not much under £3
There were yoghurts and a few other reduced bits of meat but notihing in my price range. IYSWIM.
£5.09 spent.
Free biscuits at work. Not bad and didn't have time to eat my lunch as I was given an army of students to put to work (or at least 6 of them) so I was helping sorting some bulb planting with them for selling. There are a few extra bulbs here and there, so I made up a few reduced pots for next year, giving something back and all that :P

If it makes anyone feel better about NOT being in Australia at the moment. It rained ALL DAY in Melbourne. Felt right at home. =P0

Good evening everyone
I have survived. Ally - hope your first busy day has been ok. As suspected I was busy and am now exhausted
Cancelled my physio, which meant I got books marked and still made it to my lovely friend's class. Bob - I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that the Head was in lesson again today - think I'm just going to have to get used to that.
DH made himself a Dr Oetker pizza for tea tonight - I noticed it had a 'try me free' offer on. You type in the code inside the box, answer a couple of questions and they email you a voucher for a free pizza. I know free pizza has gone down well before, and I have claimed mine.
Still no housework other than the basics - but early night is taking priority. Love to all of my fellow poor sleepers....:(crazy_cat_lady wrote: »
