When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free!

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending!

So be proud of those small steps, they really important! :money:

Morning :) happy Monday to you all! Looks quite grey here at the moment but the weather forecast says it's going to brighten up until mid afternoon :T

Not much small things going on today as I have decided to take dgd and go and visit dd. She's struggling with being there alone and her benefits haven't been sorted out so I will take some food for her and give her a little bit of money to tide her over and hopefully keep her strong until things start to settle for her. So going to be a spendy day! Need to keep doing the small things to cancel out the expense!

* check banking
* get washing in before we go and possibly hang on airer indoors if it needs it
* 2 x 10 minutes of hula hoop. Will go and do this mornings in a minute
* go to supermarket and buy some food items for dd. Will get a chicken and bits for a roast today and then that will give dd meat for a few meals after we have gone. Hope to keep this to about £15
* get petrol at the cheapest place
* take sandwiches for lunch
* submit meter readings
* clean bathroom before we go!
* get something out of freezer for oh to have for dinner
* possibly stop on journey if I see elderberries :T

Think that's it! Was supposed to be meeting a friend for drinks tonight but she can't make it so the £10 I had set aside for that can be used to buy dd some groceries ;)

Ok that's my lot! Hope everyone has a great day x

Ally - when did that exciting new line appear in your signature? An Australian adventure sounds great.

On Sunday. We're saving for our first foreign holiday in four years. We both have relatives there...and are mulling over the idea of emigrating.

Thank you for the start Determined.

Ally - a holiday in Aus will be wonderful! & if it inspired you to emigrate well, it's a big world out there why not try everything! How much are you hoping to save? Hope work is good today for you.

Well. I slept a lot better indeed. Although feel very tired. I always knew it would be hard to do 12 days in a row, physically speaking and I was right. But it's for a reason so. ..get on with things and won't complain. This week will go by I'm sure and next weekend I will be the laziest woman in the world!

    1. On the small things front. OH has the dentist today. The dentist was being annoying and wouldn't give us a specific quote for a first look. Which I think is wrong as we are with an NHS dentist so they do things via banded treatment. So they should have been able to say a first look is £20 for example. I have given him cash as our current account is tight now and I don't want any unexpected costs going through. He has denplan but as it's a new company benefit no one seems exactly sure how much we can claim back or how long it will take. Paying cash gives us some control.

    2. YS bread for this mornings toast. Save around 50 to 70p per loaf I get this way and freeze.

    3. OH working from home around his dentist appointment so no need to pack lunch. Plenty of leftovers in the fridge today.

    4. No heating on yet. We got a lot of washing line dried yesterday in the lovely sunshine.

    5. Check Arg0s again to see if school shoes we have a voucher for are now for sale again. They'd sold out when we wanted to get them.

    6. Upload reciepts to COS and Quidco from the weekend.

    7. Tidy kitchen before leaving the house. Helps after school routine run smoother.

    8. Need to get my gran a birthday card. Her birthday is at the end of the month. Have a stamp so getting organised in advance.

    9. Remember to fill bike water bottle.

    10. Update womble score to include tips/coupons from weekend.

    Have a great day everyone

    Bob

I've been awake on and off since half past three this morning, so I'm not feeling great to be honest. Don't know if it's stress or what, but my brain wanted me up and about.
Hope everyone has a good day, it's bucketing with rain here and not due to stop at all today. Ally, Australia sounds appealing even to me on a day like this, and I'm the biggest homebird ever. Good luck setting that up.
Have a good day with DD today DNMS, and Bob - take it as easy as you can.
    Here's my list
    o check banking (no PAD)
o do my friend's exercise class
    o full day of teaching
o ring and cancel my physio appointment - it was always going to be tough trying to fit it in but I will be shattered by 4pm without worrying about driving there
o mark a set of books
o contact my mam to try and find out when the funeral is so I can start arranging my work cover
o 15 mins housework and declutter
    o all meals from stores
    o nsd
    o get an early night
I think that's about it for now but there's enough there to keep my day full.

    Morning all :)
Murky day here and it has been raining overnight :(
    List for today:
I have loads to do at the moment, and it seems a bit overwhelming (like CCL, I have a habit of waking at 3 or 4 in the morning and can't seem to get out of it) so am going to break big things down into small, achievable daily targets. Worth a try anyway, and if I achieve more, it will be a bonus :)

Housework - lug huge upright hoover downstairs and hoover large rug in lounge and stair carpets (I also have a smaller vacuum cleaner downstairs but it doesn't do a good job on the carpets). Also clean sink area. Hopefully more! Done rug and stairs, cleaned sink area, put some stuff away, nothing too exciting!

Garden - clear at least one big pot Got rid of collapsed cucumber plant, put it into the compost. I picked off the remaining cucumbers yesterday :)

Shop - sort stock currently dumped in garage. Look into buying more storage boxes and walk to shop to see if anything needs doing after the weekend. Also a bit of minor paperwork. Stock in garage done, paperwork done, ended up driving to the shop as it was raining (again) and brought some more stuff back. Still need to put that away

    Apart from those:
    Seen to hens
HM meals from stores Done, prawn and courgette spaghetti tonight (from one of the Hairy Dieters books - and it used up a big courgette :))
Any surveys available None. 10p left on onepoll till I reach the £40 payout and guess what? No surveys! Not one
    Task for postal survey Done
Return library book to avoid fine Didn't get to this, but it is not overdue yet. On tomorrow's list!
Take puppy to free training / socialisation class at vets this evening Oops it is tomorrow, not today - good job I rang!
Chase up pet insurance as I should have received documents by now (they have certainly started taking premiums!) Done, not impressed with Petplan so far. Apparently there is 'a backlog in the post room' - or maybe it got lost in the post  Whatever, the problem does not extend to collecting premiums which goes ahead just fine. Anyway, I asked if it could be sent / sent again or whatever. We will see if it arrives. Why can't they join the 21st century and just email it if posting is too difficult?

    Read meters and submitted readings
    Checked banks

OH has gone out and I am going to get an early night I think!
Pup is currently stalking a daddy long legs that is nearly as big as him. Wonder what will happen if he catches it? :rotfl:

I hope to get much more than this done - lists lately have seemed very feeble compared to just over a year ago when I was in a very stressful full time job instead of part time self employed :o

Hope everyone's plans go well today :)

Fill up wood baskets later if dry, its certainly not dry the now.
Stack up 6 pallets and assorted free wood at the back of garden
    feed hens and mutts - x 2

Work 6 hours garden, 1 hour womble = 7 hour paid day and an extra hour YAY
    Skype/FB ds and dd

Bed change in spare bedding for sofa bed.
Not quite a wash ready yet, put in later if full.
    chop up more courgettes
    pick runner beans if dry
    Walk mutts later
Write a blog, this is kinda slipping as I've nothing really occurring but lots of new propagation on, so maybe I should write that up.
10 mins straightening up kitchen/etc from visitors
Banks, CC's you know the drill. Housekeeping money should be in.
Write a wee list we are starting to run low on a few bits like loo roll.

I need to fathom if I am going to stop using my phone for a while, patchy signal and its just a PITA trying to do anything out of the house and a bit overwhelming.

Its persisting down here - lordy its wet.

Have a great day folks and waves to ALL. xxxx
Total debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.

Good morning everyone, DNMS – Thanks for starting today's thread.

It’s a rather wet day here today, so struggling to get motivated. DS1 has been sent to school armed with his packed lunch.

The plan for the rest of today:
    Check banking
    Have a quick shower
    Go to uni

Whilst in town go into the bank and sort out problem with pin number for new card - Need to get a new pin sent out
Whilst in town get a few bits and pieces of food, as I didn't do a weekly shop last week, as didn't need enough to make minimum order
    Do a load of washing
Clean holiday let for friend (like to be helpful, plus I get paid for it)
Quick clean around the house, as landlord coming to do check tomorrow
    All meals from stores

Spend some time with dh, as it’s his birthday
    Check FPL
Make a start on Xmas list
    Check luckyphone
    Get rid of 50 emails

    Read Martins email
Update cv, ready to apply for the type of work that I want *work in progress*
Look into clicksnap ( I am sure that I downloaded this but never actually used it)
Look into checkoutsmart (I have not used this for a while)
    Swagbucks
    Look for part time work
    Check onepoll
Do daily on JPJ whilst avoiding the temptation to spend
Look into setting up bounts, I tried to set the account up a few months back but couldn’t understand it.
Set up a blog *work in progress, working on a title*

I think that is everything that I need to try and get done today. Hope everyone has a good Monday x
  • Hi everyone!

It's a miserable wet start to the day here - I woke later than usual & then got wet taking the dog for a walk. He hates the rain & I think he blames me personally when it's raining - he must think I turn a tap on or something!

Determined & Lego Mum - thanks for advice on surveys - I will look into those you mention.

Ally - Australia is a good target for 2016.

    Little jobs for today:

. Make soup for lunch, using leftover cooked veg & whatever else needs using up.
. Wrap a present for OH's birthday later in the week.
. Blitz the kitchen & quick tidy up the rest of the house.
. Plant some bulbs if the rain stops.
    . Lookout for onepoll surveys.
. I'm halfway through knitting a throw - need to get on & finish the other half. It's keeping me lovely & warm as I drape it over my knees while knitting.
. Dig out some knitting patterns & wool to make Christmas presents.
. Keep away from the shops today as there's nothing I need & I'll only get wet cycling there.

Not a long list, but I expect I'll find lots more that needs doing once I start.

    Have a good day.
