Vodafone credit check declined with perfect credit history

Options
I applied for a Vodafone SIM-only contract and I was declined during the credit check.

This of course made no sense as I have perfect credit history. I have a 30 year+ record of perfect credit, with always on-time mortgage payments, credit card payments, overdraft payments, etc. I even had a Three contract a year or two ago and that was also perfect.

I was told by Vodafone to dispute this by going into a Vodafone store and they would send evidence of my credit history off to an internal Vodafone department, who would be able to reverse the decision. I was told I would be contacted within 48 hours.

Two weeks later I have not been contacted at all and I have just tried to contact Vodafone via live chat and they were incredibly unhelpful. They just kept saying that they couldn't tell me why the credit check was declined - I know that, that's not what I was asking - and so I gave up.

Can anyone (from Vodafone) provide assistance?

  • All companies would tell you the same. I assume it wasn't done through a dealer and that you haven't already had a contract from them recently. If the latter they won't consider another contract until at least the first bill has been paid on the existing one; if the former dealers do their own checks and have their own rules before it even gets to the network.

Assuming it did get as far as Vodafone they won't consider another application until at least 90 days have passed. If it is an external credit record issue you may be unaware unless you check those records with the usual agencies.
  • I've never had a Vodafone contract.

I have checked my credit with all the credit agencies and the credit is perfect on all of them.

The Vodafone store manager agreed with me and also couldn't understand why it was declined.

I was told by Vodafone that if I did what I've mentioned (taking evidence into the store), they would be able to dispute the rejection and so would be able to let me have a contract.

Vodafone have done you a favour.

They are the most useless, unhelpful and incompetent shower of a company it has been my displeasure to ever deal with.

If they don't want your business tell em to stick it and find a company who will. (they will all have considerably better customer service anyway, even EE)

Do you live in a flat or not on the electroll?
Don't put your trust into an Experian score - it is not a number any bank will ever use & it is generally a waste of money to purchase it. They are also selling you insurance you dont need.

  • Dear Lee,

A member of my household was previously offered a 50% discount by your head office as compensation for a bad experience.

We tried to setup this account for that reason but the credit check was declined.

So, my husband has created an account with you instead and so would you be able to apply the 50% discount to that account?
