Hi. My Mazda 6 Diesel TS is losing oil. Goes from 2/3 full to low mark in around 3 months. No drops of oil on driveway (the undertray is removed) and it is not smoking. So it is going "somewhere".
Could you offer any ideas?
Thanks

Burning it or dumping small amounts from the head out of the exhaust.
Very common on a lot of cars. New and used.0 -
Oil seals on the turbo?
Is the water level OK? Not increasing or decreasing?Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Quite common for that generation of Mazda diesel to use a bit of oil if i remember. All your base are belong to us.0

4.5 litres of oil should last longer than 6 months though? Especially when dexelia costs c. £50 for a bottle.
Water level is the same as always.
What is concerning is that normally the level should rise because of dumping diesel from incomplete dpf regens; so in that case it is dropping very quickly.
I have had the car two years and changed the oil myself every six months. It has only been happening for the past year. I am very careful when changing the filter and retightening the oil sump plug and have checked round both for leaks regularly.
Is there anything I can check which is not time consuming before I delve deeper and/or take it to a garage?0 -
How many miles do you do?
Oil consumption doesn't discriminate, how much the oil costs you doesn't affect it
What do you mean about the failed dpf regen and oil level?0 -
Your oil level shouldn't rise unless your topping it up. No matter how your DPF regenerates0

Around 9000 so yes I know, probably not enough to justify owning a diesel
It's a 'feature' of this car. Even the manual says the level should rise to the 'X' mark. I'm pretty sure it's to do with the dpf regen where fuel is injected to burn off the particulate, but when that process is interrupted it has nowhere to put the fuel apart from the sump.0 -

Does a 2007 Mazda have a DPF?
It might be the last of those without.
Getting back to the OPs oil consumption on many cars the full level to low marking is around a litre or so.
Which for an old diesel isn't the worst.
I had a 2008 V50 2.0D and that would use some oil, especially on a long high speed run.
Not sure what engine is in the OPs Mazda but it is possible it has the same one as Mazda and Ford shared platforms and other stuff around that time.0 -

Its a known issue particularly with Mazda diesels - it does in fact dump diesel into the oil from incomplete regens.0 -
