How Much for a new Bathroom

Hi everyone

Need to refresh our bathroom, roughly 3m square on a tight budget

Everything 20 years old, so needs new flooring, new bathroom suite with a bath + better than average shower (but which could be part of the bath).

Tiling (covering most of the wall) is OK if a little old so not essential to replace

Will also need to pay for labour because whilst I am putting up shelves handy, I am not replacing a bathroom handy

Thoughts or advice on any deals or rough order of magnitude would be very much appreciated - in a good old "Homes under the Hammer" sort of way

Thanks
I think I saw you in an ice cream parlour
Drinking milk shakes, cold and long
Smiling and waving and looking so fine

It depends where in the country you are and whether the fitter you use is VAT registered or not as VAT will add 20% to your labour cost.

It also depends on the quality of the fixtures - do you want Wicks/B&Q or Villeroy and Boch?

Tiles can be £10 per sqm up to over £100 per sqm.

I think you're looking at a minimum of £5k up to around £15k.

Edit: Sorry, I just saw that you were on a tight budget. So I think around £5k depending on where you are.

It can be done on a tight budget if you get a plumber that doesn't charge the earth. A few years ago I used a neighbour who is a plumber and he charged £125 / day labour and fitted new bathroom suite and some taps in the kitchen sink. The whole job cost approx £800. Obviously, no flooring or tiling though.
  • I had a bath and separate shower, basic basin and toilet for about £1500, plus I spent about £1,000 on tiles/adhesive etc. If the water and waste feeds are already in place, its quite simple to fit things. Your best bet is to ahve a look and see what sort of things you want adn what quality, get an idea of the cost fo everything you want, and scale down from there if needed. Check out online bathroom sites as they tend to be cheaper than BnQ etc.

Thanks - so I am just off the M40 in Oxfordshire. So not cheap end of the country.

Probably the max I could justify (ie afford) is £2K so definitely medium quality rather than high (or low)

  • Put an ad on mybuilder. Explicitly say you're on a budget and perhaps give a ball park of 1.5 working up to 2k during negotiations stage

You can buy a contractors bathroom suite for around £250. Add some decent quality taps, say £150 - £200. If you just tile around the bath area and a splashback over the sink, (around 6 or 7metres sq) at say £25/m that will be £220 including adhesive an grout. Allow for a skip, replastering and some electricals.

It can be done on £2k but it would be tight. I would be tempted to hang fire for a few months and see if you can save another £500 or £700 and that will make all the difference.

That's an interesting thought. Will look into that, I need to start thinking about the details.

Not if the fitter is VAT registered and you don't go for the cheapest suite/tiles from B&Q and you want floor and wall tiles throughout and you are in London/Home Counties.

Our average is 7k all in

We can't do a proper refit for less than 5k

You could easily spend 25k on a bathroom install of you wanted the very best
