Help please, marched off premises

Please could someone advise me on my rights. I am waiting for my Union to get back to me, as the rep is busy. I recently decided to have a career break from teaching and left my last post in July to look after my grandchildren, but I got a phone call out of the blue from a friend from another establishment who were desperate for a member of staff in her 6th form college. I wasn't keen, but went in for a chat and agreed to a temporary contract until December. I started in August amidst Ofsted re inspection, which is one of the reasons for full staffing. Then was hit with the news of redundancies, low student numbers, the need to save money etc. on Thursday I heard my line manager say that they were bringing in someone from another department to do my job. In the meantime the post had been advertised as permanent and I had applied. I challenged, what I had heard and was told that it was confidential and was just being discussed. The next day I am being marched off the premises for alleged gross misconduct and sacked! No warning, nothing. Apparently I discussed my holiday with the students and the fact that I danced with a black man, God forbid, which is not gross misconduct... And I was being silly with quiz buzzers that make silly noises am I put 2 down my top and pressed them and said ding dong!! Avon calling. I hardly think that is gross misconduct. Stupid perhaps. But I also think a senior manager telling us all to keep our mouths shut before we get interviewed by Ofsted more series and using the F word far worse.

That sounds like incredibly stupid behaviour and could be seen as gross misconduct!

As you were there for less than two years then you can be sacked for any non-discriminatory reason so not sure what you hope to achieve.

Don't understand how when you only did the job as a favour you applied to get it permanently?
Lost my soulmate so life is empty.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

  • There is undoubtedly more to what you are saying but basically yes it could be gross misconduct. Firstly, discussing with students and specifying 'a black man' is not relevant to your job and may have been racist depending on what was said. The lewd behaviour is likely to be bring the profession into disrepute.
Also, if you are on an official career break, you may have not been able to work unless released from your former employer.
Your union rep might save you if you are prepared to apologise.
  • Comedy wind up post. Good try.

I also think this is a wind-up. But on the off chance that it isn't - start considering a new career. This is grossly inappropriate behaviour from a teacher in front of minors. I would expect this to enter the permanent record, and make the OP unemployable as a teacher.

I hope you're not an English teacher.

Or in fact any teacher where you need to be in control and literate.

    Or in fact a teacher.

Really? And assuming this isn't a wind-up, you think that the OP's behaviour is appropriate for a teacher? Or that they are likely to be returning to the classroom any tie soon?

If it`s not a wind up , i just hope my children never have to `look up` to a specimen such as the OP

    Really?

I think thats the only bit that applies to what I said, as for the rest, you're better of dicsussing it with someone else. I'm not that good a judge of character and intention of people I've never seen/met over the internet, I'll put my hands up and admit it.
