Cancel and start new contract in spouses name?

Hi, I just wondered if anyone knew if it was possible to cancel broadband, and then start a new contract under a different name? Our broadband is currently in my husbands name, we weren't married at the time he took it out, the contract has expired now and we're paying £36 a month for 50mb broadband and phone. We can't get fast (well, anything over 2mb) with anyone other than Virgin, so definitely need to stay with Virgin. We haven't tried calling them yet, but I can get a student contract which may work out cheaper, so wanted to see if cancelling and joining as a new customer was an option if they don't offer us anything when we call about the current account we have.

Thanks in advance to anyone in the know!
