"Kitchen" table in the living room?
Comments
-
I moved my table and chairs from the kitchen to the living room ( under the bay window ) about 3 weeks before Christmas and I love it. We now sit at the table eat and talk instead of on our laps in the living room. We rarely used the kitchen table, I don't no why. Scruffy aren't we?0

As far as i see it, you make your home work for your family and sod what anyone else thinks.
We dont have a table at all! Well we did have but all it was used for was a dumping area. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
We just took delivery of a table and 4 chairs today, now sitting in the corner of the living room and we cant wait to use it.
No room for a kitchen in our kitchen far less a table.

We sometimes eat in the living room as a "treat", not to watch TV at the same time, just because it's more comfortable! We all squeeze round our high, round coffee table. Often the kitchen feels messy after cooking and there's kid's homework and toys and my sewing stuff lying about. Being cosied up round the smaller table in a nicer room seems to make the family meal time a bit more special
Enjoy your new table!

I have a fold down table that sits in my sitting room under the window during the summer, but gets moved to my kitchen during the winter as my sitting room radiator is there and I want to warm my sitting room not my table IYSWIM. I used to have a big round table in there but it took up too much room so I changed it for a drop-leaf one that I got from Ikea with two fold up chairs that tuck away underneath Uses les space and in the summer its nice to sit by the window in the natural light sewing or just people watching at times

I'd be perfectly happy to have a table in our living room, but it's just 12' x 12' and has to accommodate 7 people (and 3 cats) on a regular basis! But our kitchen is 12' x 15' so that's where the table lives. In theory we have a "dining room" (also 12' x 12') and even a "drawing room" (ditto!) but as they're currently being used as bedrooms there's no formal dining area. It works well for us, although the kitchen table is also used as work-surface, correspondence desk and occasional sewing table, when more than two of us have urgent projects on the go at the same time. We just have to be quite fierce about clearing everything away for mealtimes!
It's interesting - socially, everyone heads for the kitchen table. My friends wander in & plonk themselves down there unless shepherded into the living room. Half of us play games around it in the evenings when the other half are watching a Big Match in the living room. It's always warmer in the kitchen, unless we've lit the stove in the living room.
In my "ideal" fantasy home, with a sensibly-sized living room, I'd have a "proper" table in both locations!Angie - GC Aug25: £374.16/£550 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0
