Could you live without your desktop PC?

I quit my old 2004 powerpc tower in the spring when Dropbox stopped supporting it. Now use my 2006 macbook almost all the time even though a bright spark has revamped Dropbox to work on my old compuiter.
My old system ran Office 2004, better than any later version, it seems to me. But I can't stream movies on it so it's come to the end of its uses for me.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
The way the housing crisis is developing, people should be thinking in terms of gaming PC as the source for central heating, since they can only afford to live in a studio apartment anyway.
I have a Delonghi oil filled radiator on wheels that looks remarkably like a tower PC.
Are you sure it's not a Nerdalize eRadiator?

I have a desktop with window XP, an old samsung nc10 netbook, a laptop with window 7, and a quite old lenovo tablet. My desktop is only used to play old games, and to store some music, my laptop is used every day. My laptop was bought when they stop updating XP and had to replace my netbook, and before they stop selling anything with window 7 as I didn't want anything with window 8, nor do I want Windows 10 now.
When I did decide to buy a tablet, I did buy a cheap one (meaning highly reduced end of line one) as I wanted to try it to see whether I would use it regularly before buying a more updated and more expensive one. I was right : I cannot stand writing with the thing, the only thing I do with it is playing games on it, and watch the occasional youtube clips, but for that I do prefer a bigger screen, and right now I can't even remember the last time I have used it. I do need a keyboard and a mouse, I even use a mouse with my laptop. My desktop is not used now that often, as I stopped using it to go online, since xp is not supported anymore.I think when my desktop dies I will try and replace it, but I hope it will go on forever as I doubt I will be able to play my old games on a new desktop, and will not want one with windows 10, unless they stop collecting data on people like mad, and allow me to chose which ones and when I want to download and install updates.
I would not consider cloud computing neither, my data should be stored on my computer, not on the net.0 -
I put my desk computer in the attic 6 months ago whilst i sorted out the kitchen and it's still there, I don't need it. Most of the time it just sat there gathering dust anyway, now I just use a laptop. I have a smart phone and a tablet but I don't really get on with them.Nothing to see here, move along.0

At home I have a desk top, an aging ipad, & my aging-faster smartphone, plus three teenagers & a husband.
At work I have a laptop, but that won't work out of office other than as a USB stick.
It is just so much easier to keep the peace with a desktop & the pinger on the phone.... Whomever has homework gets first crack at the desktop, but has to answer the phone. (Keeps them grudgingly cooperative about handing over the desktop!)0 -
I don't use a desktop PC anymore I just use my tablet, but it depends on what you need it for I guess. I just use it to surf the internet.0

Great minds think alike.
The only problem is can I turn it off in summer.
1,000Watt, so 24kW a day, about right for hot water.
What about a solar compatible thermal store?
For flats with no roof for solar panels, just connect it to heat the solar volume at the bottom.0
