Could you live without your desktop PC?

I've had to do without mine for 18mth because my spare/computer room was taken by an unexpected guest who is still with us. I have a laptop and a tablet and at first I used to go and fire up the PC at least weekly to do 'important' stuff but gradually I have graduated to doing everything including banking on the laptop, tablet or phone. Now I can't remember when I last used it so I guess its actually obsolete and when our 'visitor' moves on I'm going to get rid of it and gain back all the space the desk takes up.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

Ha ha, absolutely agree!0 -
If I ditched my Desktop, I'd have to replace it with a full size Laptop, which would be cumbersome when travelling.
Therefore, I use my Desktop at home, and my Hudl when travelling.0 -
in a word...NO
I have desktops, laptops, tablets and smartphones... different usage on different devices. Desktop still king, but each type has it's own best uses. I couldn't do anything productive or store enough on a tablet or phone.
Cloud storage? No thanks - it's my data, I think I'm the best person to keep it secure thankyouverymuch, not you mr google/crapple/dropbox/whoever...
Oh, and to all the youngsters under 25 who "do everything" on their phone or tablet.... you'd better get used to the idea of needing glasses before you're 40 if you carry on... I've been using full-size screens for 35 years and now I can see my eyesight beginning to suffer for it.........Gettin' There, Wherever There is......

is any of your data stored offsite? i don't have a problem with google/microsoft/bt/dropbox etc storing 99.99% of my media/data
it would be a massive backward step for me to get rid of my 3 monitors, proper keyboard/mouse and speakers to move to a mobile device such as a laptop, tablet or mobile"The Holy Writ of Gloucester Rugby Club demands: first, that the forwards shall win the ball; second, that the forwards shall keep the ball; and third, the backs shall buy the beer." - Doug Ibbotson0 -

I haven't had a desktop since about 2004, the laptop I use at the moment (a macbook) was purchased in 2008, never had any issues (despite being dropped down the stairs) I did double the RAM a few years ago for £50, thats the only change it has had. I still manage to get four hours out of the battery, it was originally six.0

A desktop has many advantages many of which have already been listed here. I use a laptop myself but for serious work other than what I do I'd need to use an external screen, keyboard and mouse. The seating position, screen level, comfort can really only be achieved by using an external monitor, keyboard and mouse. Of course you can do that with a laptop and that's what I do but if someone doesn't want a laptop then a desktop is much more appropriate...and it's cheaper.:footie:
