    I hate places which don't accept contactless. C&P seems so slow!

    Me too know. I feel a right Charlie repeatedly slapping the top of the machine with my card while the cashier stares at me, then decides to tell me they dont take contactless..

    (I know there is a symbol but every store seems to have a different design of terminal and it can be hard to spot)

    You should have been around when you used to have to SIGN the credit card slip and then wait as the cashier looked at your signature, then you to see if you were being a bit shifty, then your signature again before allowing the purchase!

    Took ages! :rotfl::rotfl:

  • Thank god you don't have to sign anymore, I had to recently to take out travel money and they could not read/compare my signature.

    God yes I remember signing. That just seems painful to think about now!

    Worse than that I was recently waving the card over the machine and the cashier looked at me funny and slowly said "you need to put the card into the machine" like she was speaking to someone who didn't have a clue how to use a card machine!! I was that embarrassed I didn't even try to justify myself and just put in my pin :rotfl:

    yes, you always do. just make a small purchase with c&p and then contactless is up & running. with the occasional requirement to enter your PIN again.

    I am still waiting for the time I pay contactless and it asks for a pin, does anyone know how often this happens?

    It seems to happen frequently with my Amex, but never with my other cards.

    So now I rarely use Amex for contactless transactions.

    I was told it happens if you use your card for contactless 5 times in one day. Having never done that, I've never had that happen.

    You should have been around when you wrote out a cheque and presented it with your card at the till!! It would take an absolute age at the supermarket, especially if you were behind someone who had a mountain of shopping to deal with and then spent about ten minutes fumbling about in their bag for their chequebook, then wrote out the cheque, then had the signature on it checked by the cashier with the signature on the card.

    I'd usually lost the will to live by the time I got to the actual checkout!!! ;) :rotfl:
    A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.

    I am so glad I am too young to remember this! A bit too young to remember having to sign as well. Had to sign once because of a problem with the machine, I think it was.
