So you have a job that costs more to travel to in fuel than one hour of NMW to get to and you don't like working Saturdays.
Perhaps you should consider looking for another job that is either closer to home or better paid as this one is is an awfully long way away (You did say the pay for the meeting won't cover your fuel)I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0 -

Your job description is part of your employment contract. Does that include something about "other duties" (which could include attending meetings)?0 -

I did not say I did not like working Saturdays. I would not have taken the job if that was the case as it has involved Saturday working from the start.
Absolutely love how everything gets twisted on here. I bet half the people who say I should go probably have the same reaction if they were asked to do something similar.0 -
Hi,
could be there is to be an important announcement regarding redundancies, or short time working, or wage cut.
So they want all workforce there at the same time to avoid speculation of closure.0 -

The 'other duties' will mean within your contracted hours and days. Your employer doesn't own you or every minute of your time.0 -

No I and everyone else already know what it is about. It is just about general company waffle.0 -
The company I work for occasional has a company wide meeting every so often after the office has shut (so about 7pm).
you aren't forced to go but we do get to here company news all together and get fed and watered but not paid. I don't have an issue with this.
Personally I think the OP wants to show the manager who's boss and whilst I don't think he'll get the sack for this I do think that if he wants to play by the rules then so will the bosses ....which may be to the OP's disadvantage in the future.0 -

That's a different story if you all finish in the office at 7pm but stay behind for a meeting. IN my case I am being asked to come in on my day off on a Sunday evening and if I don't go I have to attend a 10pm meeting through the week, again 8 hours after my shift ends.0 -
Nope I'm a 8.30 - 5 girl.
Others finish at 6.30.

And if OP has a shift on the next day finishing at 1400, it suggest a start time of 0600. Either the Sunday or the weekday meeting after1800 would potentially breach the Working Time regs.0
