Home Telephone-Pin to stop kids using

I'm with BT and have 2 telephones in my house. My young son has a habit of picking up the phone and ringing numbers. I would like to have some kind of pin number on the phone to stop him. I believe BT offer a service that involves a monthly fee, but is there a cheaper option. My phones are quite old:

1) Binantone System 1000

2) BT Decor

Thanks

    Two suggestions.

Get him his own playphone and put the real phone out of reach.

Get a new cordless phone system and give him the old phones to play with.

Investigate new phone systems that can be locked to prevent unauthorised calls.

I am sure someone must market a kid-proof handset.

Check if your DECT phone can put on a keypad lock - usually achieved by pressing and holding the # key.

Look for a key symbol on your key pad.

I assumed the Binatone was a DECT handset, just realised it is analogue. I have to go with what Ian011 suggests. I know of no analogue phone that has this feature, but some business IP phones do (expensive for a residential customer).

Tried pressing the # key but nothing happens. BT will charge me £4 per month for a pin but if I could get a couple of home phones with a lock facility I would replace them
  • Just looked at my iDect hands-free handsets and they shows a padlock with the * button, and pressing it prevents you dialing a number.

Wish I'd known this a couple of weeks ago when my son ran up a £13 bill whilst I was away.

Argos phones seem to have them as standard according to http://www.hotukdeals.com/ask/any-recommendations-for-a-lockable-landline-1849299

    Should be cheap enough

I assume the pin isn't needed to call 999?

He hasn't yet paid me back the £13 he owes for the phone calls, but last Friday he did pay me back the £1.5k he has owed me from the various amounts he has borrowed from me over the past year or so, much to my amazement. When I mentioned this to him yesterday, he told me he'd give it to me when he is paid this week.

You cannot dial any number, including 999, if the lock is on. At least not on my recent iDect phone.
