207 1.6HDi P0001 Code

Hi,

Car cut out last week while driving, engine lost power. Anti-Pollution fault flashed up, but it restarted again a minute or so after.

Read the codes using a basic reader and it gave me P0001.

Cleared the fault, but has just done the same again a few days later with the girlfriend driving it, stranded her in the middle of a dual carriageway with cars swerving round her, none too impressed !

P0001 googled as an open circuit on the fuel volume regulator. Anyone seen / fixed this before ?

It's 90 with no DPF

Thanks !
Mark

  • One tin of electrical connection cleaner and one toothbrush.
Clean all connectors on the fuel pump, both ends, plug and pump.
Any joints or connectors clean and remove relays one at a time and clean the legs and replace,
The dealer will fit a new pump as they are fast fit technicians who part swap.
The issue is usually a dirty connector.
I do Contracts, all day every day.
  • Get a better code reader.

I disconnected and cleaned all the plugs I could get at and checked the looms for damage. So far so good. If it happens again I'll remove some engine bits to get at the plugs I couldn't get at and give them a clean also.
  • Well it's back again after about 3 months. Twice so far in the last month, which isn't that often as it gets plenty of use. But the wife drives it to work sometimes and it's cut out on a busy dual carrigeway more than once now leaving cars swerving around her at speed. Took about 5 mins to restart. So she's not keen to drive it anymore.

Everytime it has happened it's been on a straight constant run at 50/60mph. No bumps to upset wiring etc. It gets a fair bit of use on back roads and has never gives trouble there. Does this point away from the wiring/connectors and to the fuel volume regulator itself perhaps ? I believe it's a seperate part on the hp fuel pump, about £90 ebay if it's the correct part ?

My advice? Get the codes read properly by someone with the proper equipment before your girlfriend has an accident and someone gets hurt.

There are various layers of codes - cheapo code readers only read the outermost.

A P0001 is a generic OBD code that virtually no manufacturer uses, so theres more going on than your current code reader is telling you
  • She's driving my car now when she needs to.

Pug is in daily use, maybe does this once a month if that.

Find a good mechanic with a full blown Snap On code reader set, or similar.

OR see if you can find a Peugeot mechanic who does homers and has the proper gear.

That P0001 is that unspecific its practically just a generic non descript error code. If you find the fault using that it'll be by luck not design.

I'd a 2012 Golf did similar - about once a month just would die on me when you were driving along - once when i was overtaking a couple of cars. Not pleasant when it happens, so i do sympathise!
