Dect Phone & BT Broadband problem

Got a call from a friend that recently had BT standard broadband installed. Everything went O.K and he's been able to get online.
I've just received a call from him saying that he's got a new phone (which I believe to be a Gigaset 620a) but whenever he plugs it in he loses his broadband connection.
I'm not an expert on this and so was wondering if anyone knows whats going on. I plugged in the BT Hub 4 for him in the livingroom using a line filter. He tells me that he's plugged in the phone into a socket in the hallway but the filter doesn't fit.
As I said any help appreciated as I don't know.
Thanks
