Hi, at first glance you look to have quite a lot of food already. So between us we should be able to come up with a lot of suggestions which don't involve spending much on additional ingredients.
When you have put mince x 7 and beef flank x 3 does this mean the number of portions or the number of packs (and what size)?

All I tend to put in a stew is beef stewing steak, onions, carrots, swede/turnip, potatoes and seasoning. I will often make it stretch further by either adding a good handful of lentils or a good handful of porridge oats. Your dumpling mix could be used to make both dumplings or pastry.

The mince could be used to make bolognese, lasagna, moussaka, pies (couldn't see flour on your list for pastry), all of which are good for batch cooking.

You have a tin of corned beef which makes an excellent hash/pie. I cook potatoes, chopped onion, and carrots in as little water as possible, add the chopped up corned beef and about a tablespoon of gravy powder, mix gently the put it in a dish and top with pastry, then cook in the oven for about 30 mins at 180C.....serve with veg .....yum yum.

    Hope this helps

    Hi ya,

When i put Mince x7 it means i can make seven meals with it, my mum got me a load of mince from costs and i seperated it into meal size portions for all three of us.

My menu looks like this for this week:-

    Today - Beef Stew.
Tuesday - Beef and vegetable pie (from leftover beef stew)
    Wednesday - Hash pie
Thursday - leftovers (don't have kiddies so it's just me)
    Friday - Bolognase
    Saturday - Enchiladas
Sunday - leftovers (don't have kiddies)

Ooh nearly forgot going to make a fruit cobbler a la Black saturn and also her malt loaf as DD loaves it and it costs a fortune from the shops.

Gonna go and write down my shopping list now and see which superparket is cheapest online.

given that money is tight, could you not buy a block of cheese instead of the cheesestrings?

the kids could have cubes of cheese, or slices.. just for this week? or to make it more exciting, add pinapple, crackers and ham into the equation - voila, homemade lunchables :D

Have you got a homebargains near you ? if so you can get a jar of chopped garlic for about 37p a big jar as well so you can take away your squeezy garlic and save another £1.82 from your bill :D
  • squeezy garlic - 2.19

Not sure what this is but you could buy a bulb of garlic for about 30p - it doesn't take a minute to peel and chope/crush a clove.
