You must have some seriously large bills to make £15 a month cashback! Unless you've misunderstood the thread topic?

I get cashback on my mortgage at 1%, 2% on gas and electric bills, 1% on council tax and 3% on direct debits so no i dont have seriously large bills, i just use the account effectively.

Having said that, I wouldn't anticipate ever needing a mortgage or a loan in the future, so would it actually matter if I wrecked my credit rating by trying to open other accounts and possibly being turned down again?

You wouldn't wreck your credit file with applications for current accounts in any case.

I make almost £15 a month, but that's mostly due to my mortgage which makes £9.50 on its own. Without that, I'd only get £4.65 :( Remortgage due next year, might be moving away then...

My cashback has dropped from over £8 pm to barely £5 pm -mainly because I've worked hard on "negotiating" with the likes of Sky/Plusnet etc and minimised my utility bills:)

About £11 a month, the largest part being the mortgage, the rest being made up of council tax (can't be reduced) and Sky TV and broadband, which could be reduced but I think I should be allowed to have to some luxuries in life, so largely the cashback is a welcome return for costs that I would have anyway. I also get about £10 a month cashback on the credit card, so it all adds up.

Misinterpreted, and have included interest in addition to cashback;)

Thanks for making the point; it's something I was wondering about too.

Looking to mitigate the new fee from January, I noticed that Santander also promotes it's "Retail Offers" which it claims can get you "up to" 15% cash-back. Perhaps this is the source of some the incredibly high cash-back people have claimed.

My cashback is peanuts mainly because my bills are pretty low - utilities (electricity, gas, water, phone, internet) is about 70, council tax is 60. However, I use the full 20k balance but the increased fee is going to eat further into the yield. A well diversified P2P portfolio may now be a better option.

It isn't possible -the max. that you can earn per annum according to Santander's own calculator is £530 -and you would have to be paying ridiculous amounts for water, council tax, TV etc  eg £500 per month on water ???
