Goodbye Summer Duvet

  • I have a faulty internal thermostat (part and parcel of ME/FMS/CFS) so was always either too hot or shivering under a duvet.

Last year I went back to sheets (cotton) and blankets and the difference was wonderful. Not sure quite why it works so much better but imagine it must be more but thinner layers. The only downside is that finding, say, a patchwork quilt for a king size bed is really difficult. 'Throws' only seem to come in 200 x 150 max, which isn't long enough to cover the bed. There are plenty of full size ones on Amazon in the US but postal charges are prohibitive.

I have two 13.5 tog quilts, and strip back to the one over the summer.

The second one went back on my bed a fortnight ago.

  • We've got a summer weight Baavet on the bed all year round. The window is open all year round too (unless it's windy or the rain is coming in). Sometimes if it's particularly cold I put a brushed cotton bottom sheet and cover on the Baavet. That doesn't happen very often tho.
