let me put it another way if your a nationwide customer with a disability like me dont bother with their insurance its way overpriced for disabled people
Unfortunately, you have a medical condition that will result in every insurance company loading your premium, due to the increased risk.
So does my other half, and his best insurance quote for single trip European cover is considerably more than yours. We have a choice - stay at home, holiday in the UK, or cough up and accept that, like you, he is more likely than average to make a claim. You are not being victimised...0 -
I've been surprised by the cost of the "free" Nationwide insurance for myself and my wife. For slightly high blood pressure for which 2 tablets a day are taken - on the same medication for some time - they have requested £96 and won't budge on that amount.
It was strange: we got a letter from Nationwide saying: "Great News! We've renewed your free travel insurance" and a separate letter from UK Insurance saying the annual premium for the next 12 months will be £96!
We only keep the Nationwide Account open for the "free" insurance; maybe time to look elsewhere for a current account offering a better deal.0 -
Interestingly, I received a letter this morning about the travel insurance and phoned up to get a quote. Surprised to discover it won't cost me a penny. Yet, if I go elsewhere, it costs quite a bit more due to having pre existing medical conditions.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

Asked if I took medication I said yes for hayfever, just normal everyday hayfever and Nationwide wanted over £80 to cover me.
I'm covered with my other bank account at no extra charge even though I have hayfever. and take medication for it when required.Grant me the serenity to accept the people I cannot change, the courage to change the one I can and the wisdom to know it's me"0 -

Yet, I take 4 different medications a day, including 2 inhalers and was quoted no extra.Sealed pot challenge #232. Gold stars from Sue-UU - :staradmin :staradmin £75.29 banked

There are two issues to consider.
The first is that the insurance is not actually provided by Nationwide but by UK Insurance. Nationwide do not make the underwriting decisions.
The second is that the decision on what premium to charge for a particular risk is considered to be an exercise of legitimate commercial judgement.
You may think that judgement is erroneous - and may be correct in that belief. It is discriminatory or we would all pay the same amount. However, unless you can demonstrate that the discrimination is unlawful you do not have a case.0
