nationwide free travel insurance

the nationwide free holiday insurance is fine if you are fit and well but if your disabled as i am can cost far more if you get a quote for a pre exsisting condition.my partner and i have ms she got a quote for our trip to cyprus from post office for £129 for both of us i said hang on i have free insurance with my nationwide account so should be cheaper how wrong i was gave same information to my bank was quoted £164 just for me i argued to no avail they were not only not giving me a special offer for being a loyal customer but discriminating against a large part of their customers who may also be disabled we finally got an insurance through my partners bank for £110 for both of us.

No they're not. If you had asthma or high blood pressure but weren't registered disabled you'd have an extra premium to pay.

It's not discrimination. It's pricing to risk.

If you don't like the price, you simply do what you did and go elsewhere.

How much would they have charged you with no disability and why don't you consider them to be discriminatory?

it's no different IMO the post office charging you more than a non disabled person because you're disabled. It does say on the small print that they will charge you more for pre existing medical conditions.

It's only discrimination if they can't justify it. The justification here is the risk.

    No.

(It's not "free" ever - you have to bank with them etc)

It's complimentary if you have no pre existing conditions

If you want to cover pre existing conditions then they charge you for it. They don't claim to be "free" if you have any pre existing conditions and warn you that there may be cost involved/they may not cover you at all when you get offered the insurance.
  • i understand all insurance is going to be more expensive for my partner and i but when you make a special offer to customers you dont expect it to cost far more than another company would charge you for same.as 18% of this country have some kind of disability and lot of them trust their banks to be best that adds up to a lot of extra money for them on their so called SPECIAL OFFER

Each company will charge you a different amount. John Lewis for example, quoted me £133 and the Post office quoted roughly £30 for the year.

The cover offered by each company won't be the same.

indie kid the cover with the other bank was actually better but i expected that as i wrongly thought nationwide would be less comprehensive as they were funding it appeared to me they were funding it by charging disabled far more than any other provider for same or better policy

It costs the same for all customers for basic European cover.

It's when you want extras (like cover for pre existing conditions) that they charge you.

As all customers have to comply with the same terms to get the complimentary cover then obviously those that are outside the norm (either by way of age or risk due to existing conditions etc) have to pay extra.

It's not "free" cover for all customers!
  • bored now i knew it wasnt FREE as ive stated numerous times but didnt expect it to be so overpriced
