Went to this Toby for the first time with a party of 6 only 2 were meat eaters. The amount of meat was a joke I asked for ham and beef and did not get enough meat to make a slice and a thin one at that. Complained later by e mail and never got a response it seems that the food, including the meat depends entirely on the chef working there. Shall not go there again

I reckon your vegetarian friends spoke to the chef prior to arrival0

They carve it in front of you. As opposed to emailing after the event I would have asked for a bigger slice when they carved it.0

I've only been to one once, I don't remember them being that stingy with the meat, but the beef was very fatty and stringy, not nice! Did you mention it when they cut it? I'd have made a little joke about how thin it was and see what they saidIt's nice to be nice! :beer:0 -
There are probably 10 Whitchurch's in the UK, so which one was it?0

As OP has their location as South Wales I'm going to assume it's the one in Whitchurch, Cardiff.
OP I have to say we go to this Toby quite often (every month or so) and they have always been very very generous with portions of meat to the point that I struggle to eat it all and my Mum always has to ask them to stop when there is enough for her on the plate.
I usually go for a mix of turkey and beef and am given plenty of both, my brother often gets three if not all four meat options and again gets at least a slice and a half of each meat.
I'm sure if you had asked for a bit more or even said along the lines of "is that it?" they would have given more. Or if you had said something when they came to ask if everything was okay with your meal which they always do in that branch.0 -
I went in there once, not an experience I'd wish to repeat. It was all a bit grim and the chef was tight with the yorkshires.
I had to either get a drink, then carry it while trying to stack my plate, or get my food, leave it unattended on the table, then queue at the bar for a drink. Neither seemed like a good idea (I got the drink first in the end). Then, you're not sure where you'll be sitting until you've got your plate of food as you then have to pick an empty table as there's no way to "bagsy" one.0 -
How long ago was that? We've been going there for a few years now and you have to wait by the entrance to be seated and they take your drinks order and bring them to the table (although you go and get your own top ups on the unlimited soft drinks) so there shouldn't be any struggling to carry a plate and a drink nor struggling to find a table.
As for the yorkshires, these days they are huge and you really would struggle to finish a whole one, I make big ones at home but these are at least twice the size.
I have been into a few of their other franchises and have had mixed experiences though so maybe they all have an off day.0 -

Did you not have to wait to be seated. At the Toby near me they give you one of those buzzers and you just get a drink and wait until it flashes.Come on you Irons0 -

It does say on their website that you can have a mixture of all 4 of the meats:- Honey & Mustard Glazed Gammon
- Succulent British Turkey
- British or Irish Beef lightly glazed with Tewkesbury mustard
- Apple, honey & cider glazed Pork with crackling
Why didn't you ask for more at the time?
Did anyone come and ask if everything was OK with your food?0 -
You have to laugh, apart from Sunday its only about £6 isnt it, if your a veggie its even less.0
