Options
Hey MoneySaving Gang,

A little bit of a weird request here but hey here it goes..

My OH is very and I mean VERY into moneysaving and is always on here or CAG, finding out the newest ways to save money.

Where can I find the latest credit Acts to print out for him?

As I think he would really appreciate it if I went to all this effort for him.

Thank you in advance.

I would have a rumage around The Times web page in the law section and search for what you want and when you have the relevant titles of the acts that interest you then google them for the exact wording.
Alao have a look at the credit card companies web page under Terms and conditions as they usually mention the credit acts within the T&C's.

  • Hello everyone it is a beatiful sunny day and i should be happy :j but i am not at all because i dont know:confused: what to do with 1st Credit they are a debt collection agency for mbna, which you probably know is more often than not a pain to deal with, they are rude and sarcastic and i have already put a complaint into the FSO about there conduct, and for the fact I had a nervous breakdown so i could not speak to anyone on the phone, i asked if they would contact me by letter. They didnt reply but kept phoning, and saying in their letters to me that i was ignoring them, it was them ignoring me after 6 letters, i gave up. But i did set up a s/o for a £1per month token payment to them as soon as i got behind with my payments and also asked them to freeze the interest which they havent done. Then i wrote and asked them to write off the debt. Thats when these as--oles got on the job, they rang the other day and said to my husband they wanted payment now by debit card of 4,000, if he couldnt do that then he should go to a bank or family and raise as much as he could to pay them. If he didnt the consequences would be severe, they would send in the baliffs, they could remove our goods to sell, put a charge on our home and give us a ccj, and they also threatened us with repossessing our house or making us sell our house to pay the debt. Or make us bankrupt. NOW I thought i knew the law regarding credit card debts but these guys were so convincing I dont know any more does anyone know what i should do??????????????????? they wont accept a token offer of a £1.00 but this is all we can offer at the moment, they are really nasty on the phone and very stubborn and refuse any arrangement of this kind.:o :(:( thanks for any help you can offer

If you are looking for the full text of a statute (ie an Act of Parliament), recent statutes are available online from Opsi

    http://www.opsi.gov.uk/legislation/uk.htm

BUT you should be aware that statutes can be amended by statutory instruments, and the version on this site will be the legislation as it was originally enacted, so to be sure that you are looking at the law as it currently stands, you would need to do some research to discover if there have been any relevant statutory instruments and what changes they have made. There isn't an 'official' version of UK statutes which includes all amendments (I know because I work in legal publishing, and the publishers I work for make good money by compiling to date versions and selling them to lawyers who need to be able to access this information quickly and easily). So this is a good place to start, but treat anything there with caution.

I find that a google search on the name of an act can bring up quite a lot of useful information, especially from websites aimed at lawyers. To be honest, I think you would be wasting your effort trying to print out the complete Acts of Parliament - if it was me, I'd look for a good book on the subject (maybe go to a publisher who aims at solicitors if you want a more in depth treatment) - publishers like Butterworths, Sweet & Maxwell, OUP, Jordan Publishing, Hart Publishing. Or a legal bookshop like Hammicks.

Oh, and I forgot to say that of course you have to remember that in the UK the legislation has to be interpreted by the courts, so you have to bear in mine any relevant case law.

If you do want a copy of the Consumer Credit Act 2006, you are probably best buying a book with a guide to the new law - I found a couple

    http://www.lawsociety.org.uk/productsandservices/publicationsandgifts/shop/view=publication.law?PUBLICATIONID=291469

    http://www.oup.com/uk/catalogue/?ci=9780199205264&view=lawview

Either of these books would contain the full text of the Act, but with a discussion of the legislation which would put the whole thing in context. Mind you, they are aimed at practitioners so they cost more than the typical book you'd find in the High Street.

Woops, just found out that I am out of date! There is a newish website with online access to updated legislation
