    Haha. :rotfl: We'd probably put the old locks back on anyway when we leave... I think the worst case scenario is probably the best one too ;)

    Make sure you do, they belong to the LL.

    Keep the new locks for your new home.

    We're buying a new build but I'd rather have them as spares than leave them for the LL. After the way he's been, he isn't getting anything else out of us.

    Even if it was in the tenancy agreement then it's not enforceable as it would be an unfair term.

    A bit off the point of the original issue, but just because it's a new build does not mean it's not a good idea to change the locks on your new home.

    There could be numerous contractors, directly employed by the developer or independant sub-contractors, who have had access to keys and could have kept one or made a copy. Plus estate agents, buyers who were lent a key if the property was ever used as a show home, cleaners etc

    For peace of mind, spare a few minutes and stick a new lock on each external door.
