I think ringing to follow up is OK - your solicitor's secretary or assistant will probably be able to give you the answers and you may be able to speak to them more easily than to your solicitor herself.

I'm trying hard not to be a pushy buyer but so far it seems if I dont phone and chase them things dont seem to happen.
We're on a stressful time-scale and I realise I am not their only client but some reassurance would be lovely.

In the early days there is alot of work thats done behind the scenes give them another week and see what you you hear, if you dont hear anything just give them a little "hi, how are we doing, anything I can help with" call.

A purchaser's solicitor is not in a position to discuss completion dates 9 days after being instructed. Many will not do so until all the paperwork has been received.

As it's a compromise between the different parties in the chain, whatever you might come up with at this stage is purely speculative to the extent of being pointless.

Have you had a client care letter yet? That should confirm timescales as far as they can be confirmed at such an early stage.

Thanks for all of your opinions everyone, they have been helpful. I haven't had a response to the email but will not call until Monday 28th now - I figured that would have given her 15 working days so think that should be OK to at least follow up.

We haven't received any client care letter or anything like that and as we are FTB's we were just wondering what to do for the best - if we had had a letter or email to say expect to hear off us within 4 weeks, I would never of dreamed of sending my initial email or calling. Because we have paid £350 upfront and heard nothing, not an email or letter just to say thanks, we are starting searches, it just gets a bit disconcerting. But I am quickly learning that is what to expect with house buying - it is getting normal to not hear anything!

It just gets frustrating as I work in a profession where it is not OK at all to 'ignore' emails and I am sure many others do as well. When I have to email something back within a couple of hours, I want the same service :rotfl:
  • Yes I can imagine the solicitor may get annoyed in those circumstances.

The thing to remember is, they are being paid VERY well.
So asking them to pull their finger out is perfectly acceptable imo.

You're paying them to do a job for you, So don't be afraid to tell them you want it done quickly.

Are you being paid £100's by the OP?

    No...... so shut your trap.
