We pay quarterly bills based on estimated meter readings however, I'm a little concerned because we have just had our meter read for the first time since we moved in (two years ago) & we have been given a bill for just under £1000..!!
The two of us live in a three bed bungalow with oil fired heating & hot water (elec shower), with everything else electric. We run our office from home but only half the day, our TV is on for around 4 hours a day, we use the washer & dryer once maybe twice a week, we have a separate tall fridge & freezer, CCTV is running 24/7, lights are only on if we are in the room and we regularly charge phones & laptops.
Going back through our account I have worked out that since we moved in we have used 10,007 kwh. That's around 5,000 kwh each year, Is it just me or is that ridiculously high.!?!
We are in the process of buying a new home and a huge electric bill is not something we planned for
It's not ridiculously high.
The average annual consumption of electricity for a dual fuel home is 3100kWh (recently revised down from 3200kWh), but 5000kWh is certainly not ridiculously high.
When you were billed previously, why did you not check then how accurate the estimate was?
The other problem is that 10,000 kWh should only cost you about £1000-£1500 total anyway.
So how much did you actually pay for the last 2 years???
It would appear you haven't paid even for the 2000kWh/yr you assumed you were using.
Perhaps if you could post a legible image of the bill you have now received (remove personal info), we could work out what exactly is going on here...0
