Is my Electric Meter Faulty.!?

My overall question is, do we have a fault with our electricity meter.?
We pay quarterly bills based on estimated meter readings however, I'm a little concerned because we have just had our meter read for the first time since we moved in (two years ago) & we have been given a bill for just under £1000..!!
The two of us live in a three bed bungalow with oil fired heating & hot water (elec shower), with everything else electric. We run our office from home but only half the day, our TV is on for around 4 hours a day, we use the washer & dryer once maybe twice a week, we have a separate tall fridge & freezer, CCTV is running 24/7, lights are only on if we are in the room and we regularly charge phones & laptops.
Going back through our account I have worked out that since we moved in we have used 10,007 kwh. That's around 5,000 kwh each year, Is it just me or is that ridiculously high.!?!
We are in the process of buying a new home and a huge electric bill is not something we planned for

Why were you allowing the supplier to guess at your bill? It doesn't sound unreasonable. Meters are rarely wrong.
Did you supply a reading when you moved in? You could be paying for the previous occupants usage.0 -
According to the Ofgem stats, your on the third quartile, so 75% of consumers use less, 25% more. Median is about 3300kWhPA. I live alone in a three bed semi, and my average consumption is 2700kWhPA. Your consumption does look a bit high, have you got any old inefficient appliances?0

We never remember to submit meter readings & they never ask us for one. But will definitely be doing it in the future.!0

No most of our appliances are new within the last two years, other than our fridge & freezer which are about 5 years old.0

Two of us in a house with electric shower, but gas HW & heating, use a bit under 4,000kWh per year.
No idea what your CCTV may use, but your actual usage doesn't look outrageous. Take weekly readings for a while to get an idea what your current usage is being recorded as.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the In My Home MoneySaving, Energy and Techie Stuff boards. Think that may be a good idea. I read somewhere that a family of 5 in a 4 bed home with gas central heating uses around 5,000 kwh per year, so understandably from that I was a little concerned.0 -
Was the meter read from when you took over the property correct ?0
