Where is scenic in Germany?

What is the most scenic part of Germany?
I would also like an area which is very German speaking as last time we went everyone spoke english and we didn't have a chance to speak German..

I have a small budget of £300 - £400..

If anyone can help me I would really REALLY appreciate it.

Thank you all.

Kind Regards

Natasha

Black Forest is supposed to be scenic.

I found in the former East Berlin that there wasn't much English spoken and a lot of Menus were in English only.

I seem to recall that the Black Forest was a lovely place to visit. Went there twice with school (many years ago!). It is also fairly close to the Swiss border so a visit there is also recommended.
  • You want to go down to the very south - lakes and mountains - where the Germans go on holiday.
  • The previous posters are correct in pointing towards the Black Forest.

The area south of Munich right down to the Austrian border is also very nice as you approach the foothills of the Alps. Think trekking up a mountain, King Ludwig's castle etc.

As English is being taught as the first foreign language in most schools, it is widely spoken (at least to a degree) all over Western Germany.

Eastern Germany may not be quite as scenic (although I like the lakes area between Berlin and the Baltic Sea), but has the added bonus of being considerably cheaper than the West when it comes to food and accommodation. Also, English is not quite as widely spoken there since the pre-1990 generation learnt mainly Russian at school.
  • ... where the Germans go on holiday.

    That'd be Mallorca :rotfl:

Don't forget that much of Switzerland is German-speaking.

    Follow the rivers:
    Mosel route from Koblenz

    Rhien route from Koblenz.

Both are easy to drive and have lovely places at which to stop.

Useful site, click on the map

You don't say when you're going?

I agree with christineperseus go South.

The further past Frankfurt you go the better.

Stay in their Guesthouses, or Inns to speak the lingo.

Try Weisberg near the Black forest, it's a beautiful picturesque town (& great for buying christmas things)

Also if you get a chance get a boat down the Rheine valley (excuse my spellings!) you get a great view & can go & find places that do wine tasting made from local grapes!
nothing to see here, move along...

The Rhine Valley is beautiful, scenic, and full of history and legend. Also the rivers that join the Rhine - the Mosel, the Ahr...Scenic, you couldn't wish for anything more scenic!
