My husband is disabled and cannot walk without crutches.
We have previously been to Las Vegas and love it but have been twice and now I would like to see somewhere else.
The question is- Where?
While in Vegas we hire a mobility scooter and because there is so much to see in a quite compact area have had no problems getting around.
We would like to try somewhere else but want the same kind of things, shows, casinos, lots of interesting things to visit and see and exiting nightlife.
Hiring a car is a no because he is not comfortable for long in a car so it needs to be somewhere we can wander around on foot.
I also want somewhere comparable pricewise with the hotels and shows in Vegas and somewhere with not too much travel distance from the airport.
Ive wondered about Los Angeles or New York but wondered if thy are too 'spread out' as oppose to the Vegas Strip'.
Has anyone any suggestions please?

Both LA and New York are massive, especially compared to LV. Boston, Washington and Chicago are more accessible but do not offer the casinos, nightlife etc that you're looking for. Also you're going to struggle to find anywhere where you'll get the quality of hotel for such good prices.
There's Atlantic City but I think you'll be very disappointed compared to Vegas.0 -
Thank you for the reply, I had looked at Atlantic City but someone told me it was very run down.
Back to the drawing board then - or back to Vegas!0 -

Not sure I agree with that summary. All of those cities have fantastic night life and casino access (although for DC you'll need to head to southern Maryland).
I agree AC is poor and not recommended, and that you'll find hotel stays more expensive than Vegas.
Have you considered Canada ? Perhaps Toronoto ?Legal team on standby0 -
Washington DC and Boston are easily accessible on foot and also have excelent transport systems.
Can't promise casinos but certainly plenty to see and to in the daytime and both have good nightlife.
New Orleans would be my third choice, again easy to get around and good nightlife with the bonus of a casino almost in the centre of the French Quarter. Not so much to see and do in the daytime though unless you take a few of the guided tours.0 -
Have you thought Disney? It is very accessible and you would have access to great shows, the nightlife is pretty good at downtown Disney and the boardwalk. My folks are very 'anti-disney' (or so they thought) but I took them and they loved it... especially Epcot. The only thing you wouldn't have is the casino.
This might be even.more out of the box... why not try a cruise? All modern liners are accessible, the nightlife is great and if you do a Us/ Caribbean cruise you usually dock in the port so getting off the ship would be.easy. Most cruise staff are very knowledgeable about the ports and their accessibility.
My Last suggestion is Paradise Island in the Bahamas. It is a big resort based around the casino. Great entertainment, all pretty close together and it also has a great aquarium.0 -

You're not going to get far in LA or NYC on crutches - you're also going to be looking at twice the cost for hotels equivalent to those in Vegas.
What about a two centre OP, so you can get the Vegas experience and a bit of sightseeing etc elsewhere?0 -
Thank you for the suggestions. Florida is not really an option as we have been several times.
We are not beach people or sunbathers which is why we enjoy the Vegas type of holiday. A casino is not a must if we find somewhere else, its just that as we are not big drinkers and now cant go dancing we have enjoyed the nights in Vegas watching a show and finishing off having a couple of hours playing cards in the hotel casino.
I quite fancy New Orleans but Ive not really researched it, just seen bits on the TV but I do have a friend going in a couple of weeks so maybe can get her to suss out what she thinks.0 -

Sorry - my bad for not being clear enough. I agree that LA and NYC are large, I was disagreeing with the bit after that on Boston, Chicago and DC. I was clear though that hotels will be more expensive.
I'd slightly challenge the NYC point though. If you stay very centrally (eg Times Square) you have a lot in a small area including many shows and comedy clubs. It just might be a bit busy with people which might deter someone with mobility issues.Legal team on standby0 -
NYC esp. Central (eg Times Square) is awful for people with mobility issues . We went with our son who is in a wheelchair . You cannot access the subway . You cross a dropped kerb to find an 16inch "wall" on the other side of the road . people are jumping over you to get to where they are going . Dining tables are often crushed together and chairs fixed to the floor . we loved it and returned without our son . A little out the box but .Try Portland Oregon. Its not a bad place to enjoy USA and lots to do in and around such a beautiful city . Very accessible for you & hubs:cool: hard as nails on the internet . wimp in the real world :cool:0

Another vote for a cruise - days at sea can be as busy or as quiet as you like- nightlife includes shows, casinos etc , the newer ships are all built with accessibility in mind and there's a massive range of destinations to choose from whether it's Alaska, Europe or Mexico and or the Carribean or even the Far East.
I agree NYC is even worse than London for getting around with a wheelchair but Boston would be good and not so car-centric as most other US cities. A coach tour maybe fall colors on the East coast would be another option - or even a golden triangle tour of LA, San Francisco and ending in LA. I met a lovely coach party just starting their tour in Salt Lake City last month- they were going to Yellowstone and on and finishing the tour in Vegas.
You can two centre just about anything in the US so maybe a coach tour to "see" stuff then a few days in Vegas at the end - the reality is for accessibility, shows , gambling and cheap prices for hotels there really isn't anywhere "like Vegas"I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
MSE Florida wedding .....no problem0
