Time to #nameandshame these dreadful firms!
I had poor treatment, even when I was volunteering, at a charity-
Left in a fdingy room, to do a mass of clothes steaming.. no one checked how you were, or mentioned breaks etc..
One morning of that was enough.breathe in, breathe out- You're alive! Everything else is a bonus, right? RIGHT??0 -

wow, were you a genuine volunteer or did the job centre march you down? I volunteered when i was a student for a well known charity, and the managers were horrible people.0 -
Voluntary work makes an easy target for job centre advisors with sanction places to fill.
We see it all the time on here, they set the claimant up, sanction them for not attending meetings.I do Contracts, all day every day.0 -

that sucks. then if they do go they get treated like 2nd class citizens at the placement. Has this always been going on , or is it a new thing since 2010?0 -

A mate did 3 months work trail at a DIY store/builders merchants and did not get a job after it. Neither did the person before him or the person after him... See the pattern!0

I cannot fathom, as an employer, how anyone should have to do that.
Anything more than half a day is pointless generally. 0
