SO tired of job seeking

I'm making this thread to rant about my job seeking experience.
For over a year now I have been looking for a job constantly it didn't matter if it was Minimum wage, Part time, temp you name I have applied for it.

I have registered with numerous recruitment agencies, I arrive looking smart with my CV over to their office , I then fill their registration forms in then bam I receive no reply, no interviews, nothing.

I have lost count of the number of application forms I have completed over the past year. 70% just completely ignore my application. About 20% send in automated rejection and 10% actually bothered to send me personal rejection email detailing the reasons for my rejection. I have had just 2 interviews this year so far and both have rejected me.

I am 25 years old I have my GCSES and my A-levels, I have no experience other than working briefly as a cleaner for about 7 months. I really don't seem to understand how people find it incredibly easy to find jobs.
I'm not looking for anything major just a job doesn't matter if it's Minimum wage or physically demanding.

Are you saying that at the age of 25, your work experience has only been 7 months of cleaning.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
  • Are you saying that at the age of 25, your work experience has only been 7 months of cleaning.
    Yes unfortunately
  • Wow first post is having a dig at OP, sooo moneysavingexpert.com

Anyway, with regard to the agencies are you really getting on their back? You have to call them and annoy them for them to remember you and want to get rid of you by getting you a job. Id try that, thats what I did when i was younger and it worked.

I advise you get yourself some voluntary work too, try your local CAB as the skills gained there are usually in demand.
  • Your lack of experience is probably the main thing holding you back, especially if you have gaps in your CV.

    Try volunteering.

Most of the people who find it easy are already in work and/or in an industry where they have knowledge/experience very few others have. A lot find it very hard.

Also, if you're applying for a lot are you taking your time with each application or changing your CV/cover letter to apply to the position you're going for? If not, you need to be.
  • Like the gent said, get some voluntary experience, that will allow you to put something on your CV as im guessing its very bare or filled with fluff at the moment.
  • Are you following up any of these applications and agency registrations or are you just hoping they'll come back to you?

So you need to get on the ladder. Two ways to go about it. Apply for jobs that are cleaning related and try to move up that way and/or network. People will give chances to people with a lack of experience who they get to know and to trust. That means getting to know people, offering to help them with various tasks and finding out about anyone who might know someone who is looking for someone etc...
  • Are you following up any of these applications and agency registrations or are you just hoping they'll come back to you?
I follow up and they mention that they'll contact me then after that I never ever hear back from them
  • Do a ring around every morning at 9am to all the agencies you are registered with, especially if you can do temping work and have your own transport.

Agencies that deal with temps usually will have received a phone call from their client in the morning to say that their temp hasn't shown up, and they need a replacement. If you are calling them, saying you are available, they may take the easy option and say 'OK can you go to this place today?'. it might get you some more experience.

Also if you are on the phone regularly, either they will remember you when they get a vacancy in and know instantly that you are available, or they will think 'lets get this guy of our backs and offer him this position'.

Think of the vast number of people that an agency will have on their database, if you just send the application and don't bother to stay in contact, you will be forgotten about. Keep on their backs and stay in their heads.

I say all this from experience - we remember the people who are constantly on the phone asking for work, it shows that they are eager to work and less likely to let you down than someone you have barely ever spoken to.

Try not to be too picky about what the agency can offer you - you might initially only be offered a short term placement, but this may lead to longer term work, or at the very least, the agency will now have some experience of you, and be able to push you forward for other vacancies as someone reliable etc

I'm surprised you're having such a hard time.

Having so little experience isn't ideal, but one of my friends is 32 and until 1 year ago had NEVER had a job! (well, I think he had one packing CD's for 2 weeks when he was 17)
He's now working in a call centre through an agency.

What sort of roles are you applying for? In my experience, warehouse type roles through agencies will take anyone.
