    Sounds like it!

Every so often I contemplate a second job, but there's nothing that I really want to do with my spare time (that would pay money anyway). Given that my regular wage is more than enough for our needs, I can't bring myself to add on another job on top.

Maybe once we semi-retire somewhere I can pursue more things like working at a library, or an animal shelter, etc. :)

Having trained and worked as a librarian, I can't recommend it. They are largely staffed by stereotypically snippy middle aged women who !!!!! constantly.

Bummer, I was more picturing the staff room full of books, mugs of tea, biscuits, comfy chairs, and companionable quiet. ;)

So exhausted! Had the "brilliant" idea to flip our lounge layout around - it's L shaped and we've been using the long side as our lounge area and the short side as our "giant pile of crap that we ignore for 2+ years" area. We've now moved the lounge stuff into the short side and the long side is full of the crap...now organised in piles on the floor rather than piled up haphazardly on floor/furniture/etc. I like the lounge area quite a bit better as it feels cosier and the tv is much closer to the couch so I can actually see it. ;) Spent about 13 hours working/cleaning... The dogs/cats are very confused, and greyhound/management cat clearly don't approve, but they'll live.

Did find £1 in the couch that had stuff piled up on it, so have added that to the offset pot. :D

Hoping that every weekend we can tackle at least one mini-pile of stuff and maybe by the next bank holiday we'll have a nice big open space? Would like to set up a little sewing area, and we have a big table that we bought for playing board games on but have yet to actually do it (due to no space to set it up). At least now our board games are 1) organised 2) visible, which might tempt us to play them.

Edited to add: biggest win of yesterday was probably the 2 boxes and 2 bin bags of books/dvds/who-knows-what of DH's that can go to the charity shop next weekend. Already loaded into the car and everything. :D

£10.30 from p@nelbase means the mortgage balance is now at £142,942.46. :D

Also got the quote from the local garden/fencing guy....£1,350 to clear our jungle, install a fence (with bigger/better posts than we bought), buy/install a gate, and clear everything. :j Will probably be another £1k to finish everything off later but we can potentially do some of that ourselves. Very pleased with that as I was afraid it would be double. Now we just have to coordinate prepping the downstairs toilet so that ideally we can have plumber + garden crew here for the same 2 days to sort out all the things.

Otherwise counting the days until payday. Should be Friday for me and Tuesday (?) for DH...still haven't heard back from work as to whether my pension contribution will be automatic this month. Last month's contribution only appeared in the account yesterday so that took quite a while!

Bought a work-related book in USD so moved £14.99 from my allowance to the offset pot. Now at £142,927.47. Slow and steady progress... :)

New shoes arrived and are comfortable and a bit more interesting than the old pair (navy suede rather than black leather). Debating getting a second pair of walking shoes to prolong each pair's life, but am not sure what I'd want to get.

Quiet day today - DH and I volunteered at an event encouraging women to get into tech on Friday/Saturday so today we just sat around the house. Meant to go grocery shopping but only got motivated to go at 4pm when everything was shut. Will probably go tomorrow after work.

Must say I'm devastated/depressed by the voting result. As an immigrant myself, I suddenly find myself feeling very unwelcome here (knowing that I'm "not that sort of immigrant" doesn't make it any better, frankly). I gave up my dual citizenship and bought into the UK fully, but it appears that sentiment isn't reciprocated. DH and I have been talking about options all weekend - Wales is off the radar for now, and we'll have to see how things shake out but I can't see living in Britain long-term if this is the social/political climate. We're fortunate to have plenty of options in where to work/live, but I remain heartsore at what the future might bring. Who knows...maybe things won't turn out as badly as I fear, but I'm more of a realist/pessimist type who likes to be pleasantly surprised by things than an optimistic type.

Have made July's OP today to squeeze out a few pence of interest saved but am holding off on a manual pension contribution while the markets are so unstable. Frankly I'm debating the usefulness of contributing so much to a pension at all now, if we may not be retiring in Britain (or if we do the value of the currency may be shot), but may as well take advantage of the fall in stock market prices for the moment. Can't say I'm as excited about doing it as in previous months, though.

Sorry for the doom and gloom, I really do hope my sentiment is wrong and I am pleasantly surprised by how things turn out in the next few months/years, but I'm worried. (And sad...frankly whatever happens DH and I will only suffer inconvenience as our jobs/skills are highly portable, there are a lot of people who can't say the same and will be hit much harder by any repercussions.)

I am so sorry you feel that way Hiddenshadow and if it helps I and the other 48% of the remain voters are devastated too. I have many friends and colleagues who are immigrants or 2nd generation immigrants and such an important part of our society. I honesty don't think the majority of 52% realily understood what they were voting for and I've yet to hear a rational argument for Exiting - people seem to have voted emotionally as a reaction to everything they consider to be wrong with the country. It is just such a mess.
