This is what you get for going on holiday and not paying in the £500 on time!
Well done on your windfall
Oh no! I have all of ours setup on standing order so it's all automatic. Does lose us a tiny bit of interest with the money shuffling around over 4-5 days rather than 1, but at least it guarantees all the pay in requirements get met.
Sounds like your holiday was lovely, there could be far worse reasons to miss getting interest.0 -
So the money from MIL is from great-uncle's estate. She got a 5-digit sum so I feel less bad about her giving us 4-digits.
I originally thought we should split it out as £1,400 OP (still feel bad that we're skipping this month!), £500 ISA contribution, and £100 fun (dinner out?). DH pointed out that, while MIL would be fine with whatever we decide to do with it, something tangible would be nice so that we can send her a photo and say "hey, thanks to you this happened". So now the plan is to get quotes for someone to put up the fence in the garden, seeing as we've had the supplies for 18 months and still haven't done it ourselves. (Plus, while I'm happy to get stuck in on DIY, a fence seems like something that you want to do well/be sturdy and not just fake it 'til you make it which is our general approach to DIY.) :rotfl:
Off-the-cuff quote from the guy who installed our doors was £1,500, so I'd hope we could get it done for about that. That'd still leave a bit of money for saving/investing and/or treating ourselves, which seems like a win-win.0 -
Congrats on the surprise windfall :T Sounds like a good idea to use it for the fence project0

Thanks, still need to actually call people and get quotes. Hit with a nasty head/chest cold last week so had a very quiet few days.
Just spent close to £200 on yarn.It fits in my allowance as I've hardly spent any of it the past few months, and it should give me enough for quite a few projects so I probably won't buy any more yarn this year, but clicking "Checkout" was still a challenge.
Enjoyed watching Badminton over the weekend - super inspiring to watch. Found a lovely mare in Exeter for £1,500 who looks just my type...too bad I won't be horse shopping for another few years at least!
Did take advantage of the car, at last. Went to Ald! and picked up quite a bit for less than we usually spend on our T3sc0 delivery, then to S@insbury to pick up the extra bits. I was hoping to find a decent pair of jeans at the charity shops but struck out. Did pick up a pair of running tights, a lovely soft t-shirt, and a lightweight cover-up to wear over tank tops...all for £1 each. Plus I splurged on a book for 50p.
Also took the dogs out in the car. They were very excited at first (greyhound is very interest in cars now that getting in ours a few times has produced treats consistently) but by the time we'd gone a block they were both bored. Hoping that bodes well for when we drive up to the midlands to visit the in-laws.0 -
Lots of little bits of money today.
Won £10 via LuckyPhone, woo - showed up within minutes which was cool
£18.40 payment from p@nelbase arrived
£3.31 earned from final month with S@ntander CC - bit of a faff to get it but it should show up today
Hoping to finalise the 10k loan this week - having to chase DH a bit as it involves phone calls which he hates.0 -
Loved Badminton on TV this year. Suggested to Mr Watty we budget for going next year to watch for real.Made it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -
We've gone to Badminton and Burghley and both are great. May go to Burghley this year, though it's not the best year to go as all the Olympic horses will skip it.0

Indeed. We did that for London as well and while I was (briefly) tempted to get live tickets it was nice to sit in our flat on a comfy sofa and watch all the coverage without the mobs at Greenwich.0

noooo... Greenwich was wonderful. I really splashed out and went to the Cross Country and the dressage. Didn't get showjumping tickets but the rest was just amazing. The whole thing was a 'proud to be british' moment for me
Amazing memories and as I doubt I'll go to another one so glad I spent the cash
