DH passed his test! :j :j :j :j
Have enquired about car inspections with AA and started looking at local(ish) cars to potentially see this weekend.
Have been spending a bit more than usual to take advantage of being home for deliveries this week. It'll all even out next month as we won't need to stock up on pet food/meds/etc for a while.0 -

Thanks all! He seems very relieved, and maybe even a little excited to shop for/own a car?
May investigate lessons myself now, too - DH thinks I could read the licence plate at the distance they had him at so we may drive up to the testing centre one day and check. I already know how to drive a manual, so it wouldn't take too many lessons to get me up to speed with the road laws here, and it would be handy if we both had licences. At least my backup plan will be self-driving cars, whenever they become widely available. :cool:0 -
Congratulations to DHMade it to mortgage free but what a muddle that became
In the event the proverbial hits the fan then co-habitees are better stashing their cash than being mortgage free !!0 -

Haha, just read it now - very interesting! DH and I happened to be talking about self-driving cars over the weekend so it was on my mind anyway...I definitely love the idea of just being the "backup driver" and letting a computer do all the decision/analysis work for me (not to mention the monotony of paying attention to everything on the road).0

I loved his assumption that all cars will be fuelled by solar powered electricity/hydrogen etc in the near future, but in terms of self driving cars I think I'm too risk averse to find it appealing yet. With all the teething problem some car manufacturers have had of people hacking into systems and making your brakes stop working/driving the car on your behalf, it terrifies me :eek:Mortgage Oct '20: £615k

Yeah, as a software developer I can see plenty of risks in having AI drive cars around!! I do like the idea of you "driving" but the car actually doing the moving, though. I think that's what he was describing with the Tesla? You still had to be in the driver's seat and aware of what's going on, but the car handles noticing cars slowing down ahead, safe distances to merge/pass/etc, all that good stuff where a computer's reflexes (or response time) would be far better than ours.
In the meantime, I'll "self-drive" a car via DH. :cool:0
