Torque curves - which do you prefer?

  • Probably because this isn't M3wa!!ers.com or whichever fantasist site you normally frequent.

Talking of M cars, The e92 M3 has one of the flattest torque curves and pulls like a train from 1500 rpm to the red line (8400 rpm) without being peaky - it's so flat you could sleep on it. That means there's a ton of torque on tap from 0 to 180+ mph.

Other race derived engines like the S2000 or GT86 also have flat torque curves. See here for a graph:

BeenThroughItAll, these forums that talk about such things are most definitely not 'fantasist'. They are very real. Go on any enthusiast car forum like M3 cutters or GT86 post and it won't be hard to find M3 owners gloating about their traffic light races or races against other cars on the motorway.

That's why I referenced the forums you frequent, not the sort of forum I, or any other person who has an *actual* car or cars, would frequent.

So are you trying to say that people who are members of enthusiasts forums like Nissan Z, M3 Cutters, GT86 don't *actually* own a vehicle?

I think he meant that this isn't a certain car enthusiast club forum (Mondeo diesel owners forgiven) I know of certain BMW's but this E30 whatever means little to me and I'm going to remain ignorant on it, as it's not going to change my life in a positive way.

I only ever go on one forum, the Toyota Yaris forum. Great banter.

OK. Let me put it bluntly.

You're a fantasist, and a complete waste of oxygen. You come here to ask your silly questions, lie like a spoiled little child, and waste everyone's time.

I'm suggesting that you would be better off posing your question on forums where other pathetic fantasists like yourselves would hang out - hence my quip about M3Wan!ers.com. On most forums, real people with real cars exist, but they're not the sort of places you belong.

I think your comments are a little uncalled for and harsh. No, I don't own an expensive performance car like the E92 M3, but rather an 'average mans' 2.0 TDI. So I am very much aware of the real world. I have ambition and one day will no longer drive such a boring car.

Really? Well as I've said before, if you want to be treated like a valuable member of this forum, or indeed like an adult, then you need to man the !!!! up, apologise for your time-wasting oxygen-theft, grow a pair and start listening to people, rather than wading in with incorrect advice and ill-informed opinions on things you have no experience or knowledge of, or expertise in.

Go ahead and report me again, you've already got me one infraction in the past (the same day you got PPRd for the 27th time), but frankly I have no time or patience for you.

My favourite is the peaky high revving engines - like the V10/V8 screaming F1 engines. Not much torque down low, so easy enough to drive round town, and if you want to have fun, you just up the revs. RX-8 was best for this (11,000 RPM!), so smooth. Also Celica VVTL-i 190 BHP. The S2000 is similar.
Anyone who enjoys the noise on that R8 advert on the rolling road will understand. That's the sound of a V10 engine screaming.
  • You're actually quite wrong. s2000 and RX8 both actually have very flat torque curves- as with the 190 celica.

Race cars in general have flat torque curves; it makes it easier to modulate power at any speed on track.
