I checked the price I'm paying for the BT deal and it's comparable to what TT and Virgin charge - at least for the first 12 months!

I have to ask the question though, why do Virgin and TT not put people on the fastest connection available? Do they want to lose customers or something? Maybe for Virgin the answer was 'yes'.

Most probably as you got a new customer deal. This is the same with all providers.

Virgin and TT can't change your connection as and when they please. So if you don't ask to move to fibre, they will leave you on ADSL and assume you are happy with it.

I live about 3 miles from my exchange, and have had ADSL from (among others) Orange, O2, BT, Sky. They have all supplied me with roughly the same speed over the last 10 years.

I don't believe BT get priority over cables. They are treated the same way as any other ISP.

    HI Horlock,

Lines will genreally perform the same, regardless of your ISp. THe significant drop in your line performance sounds like a fault, possibly in the exchange when the line was rejumpered to our equipment after being removed from Sky's

We need to take a look into it fully for you. Please post over on the TalkTalk Community or tweet us @TalkTalkCare and we can run some line tests. We will also look into the notes from that phone call as Ive never seena time that we couldnt run tests due to the lines own performance as the test is run from the exchange equipment, with the purpose of testing the lines performance (making the actual performance irrelevant, thats whats being measured, not whats measuring.)

    Cheers
