So... British Gas won't insulate my roof

So i've just moved into 'new' old property and apparently because of the pitch of the roof and slightly awkward access, they wont carry out any of the work due to health & safety. My question is what other options do I have? Is there any point in contacting other energy companies?
Also is there any point in submitting a Green Deal application before Sept 30th as i've read on here the funds ran out in March.
Thanks in advance!

If you are reasonably fit and able, its not that hard to do it yourself - OK so you'd have to buy the rolls of insulation but if you watch the prices at places like B&Q and Wickes it can be done pretty cheaply - and maybe for not much more than you'd have to pay otherwise via a contractor. Its not the most pleasant job in the world but stick on some clothes you don't mind binning afterwards, and get some of those paper face masks to keep the dust out, and then its just a question of cutting the pieces to length and rolling them out in the gaps between the joists, before going back over the top (preferably at right angles to the joists) to do the second layer.Adventure before Dementia!0

Cheers Dave,
I've haven't a problem with doing it myself, it's just i've now got to pay for the materials to do it with!0 -
Don't go to the big sheds, they are all very expensive for this stuff now.
Cheapest: keep an eye on local Facebook pages and Gumtree.
Also Seconds & Co.
Insulation Place has fairly keen prices.
Even though you have to pay for it, it's not a huge amount for a pretty good payback. See my post history for more tips.0 -
We were also turned down last year on BG's last free insulation drive "Because your insulation is flush with the rafters you are not eligible for free loft insulation" despite the fact it was only 70mm deep compared to the recommended 300mm...
So I saw on Facebook a local company (also on Gumtree) doing free loft insulation.
They came over, showed me all of their details, did a full survey of the house(checked radiators for TRV,thickness of the walls, square footage, what lightbulbs etc whereas BG just looked in the loft), phoned me the next day saying I was eligible and they came back, threw down some 270mm across the rafters, got me to sign for it and that was that.
Search Gumtree for "Insulation" in your area, you may get lucky (They said they were working with the welsh government so may just be a Wales thing)0
