A&L online saver

Have I read elsewhere that transfers between this and the linked A&L current account take place on the same day or take one day to complete?

I have got my A&L online saver up and running today, and transferred money between it and the PremierPlus current a/cs It seemed to update both accounts immediately - which is good.

But I still have a Premier current a/c too, and this is where the money came from for this transfer. I noticed that it was not possible to transfer instantly between this and the PremierPlus - it takes a day. So to transfer between current a/cs takes longer than to transfer between linked savings a/c and current account it seems. It would be nice to use the Online saver to make future-dated transfers into the PremierPlus [for bills on a certain date etc] as I am using the free overdraft.

Note: I have also found that the payment details [i.e. the list of organisations' bank details] set up with the Premier a/c have not transferred to the newer bank a/c automatically. Do I just have to duplicate these entries for the new account if I wish to make a direct payment? - I suppose so?

Assume it takes a day - I got in a right mess with this one - loads of fines and then more because they took me overdrawn.

I managed to get them all refunded but it was harsh, if it needs a day, it could at least show the transfer as pending rather than appearing as an instant credit.

You should have upgraded your existing Premier account to a Premier Plus, not set up a new Premier Plus account. Then you would have all your payment details set up and all your DDs/deposit mandates would not need to be changed.

You can still upgrade your existing Premier account and bin the new Premier Plus - which is what should have happened anyway.

How did you request the upgrade?

And, if you intend to transfer funds into the current account to meet payment commitments, you MUST do so a day before the outgoing transaction - DDs and cheque clearances are processed overnight first thing in the morning and the payment will bounce, even if you transfer funds in later the same day which would make it appear as if you were never overdrawn. The easy answer to this, though, is to set up an overdraft limit (for free) as big as they will allow - and then this issue doesn't arise as long as the payments out do not exceed the overdraft limit.

I was told by A&L that I had to open a current a/c, then Plus Saver, then Premier Plus Current before opening an Online Saver. I've done all this, however all I want is the Online Saver and I can't find anything in the small print to say I have to have all the other accounts. Should I shut the rest of them down, or is there any benefit in having them even though I don't intend to use them?

Same here. Online Saver only - never any mention of requiring other A+L accounts.

I would keep the prem plus account (though it needs £500 moved in and out of it each month) because it gives you free travel insurance. Also I imagine its the account that's 'associated' with the online saver - not sure about the plus saver but what harm can it do to keep it?

I think you meant to say: "I would keep the Premier Account (though it needs £500" etc?
    Sue B:
Yes, keep one or either of the current accounts and make sure that you 'link' it to the online saver as this provides immediate pay-in and withdraw facilities [as far I can see at this early stage] the second bank account is not linked and so takes an extra day to move money in [or out?] of the Online Saver. May I just mention too that A&L keeps track of all your previous account activity - not just the current session's activity - which I have not seen with any other bank/organisation.

    Hi All,

Just noticed on the A&L website, a new phone number for current accounts, and amazingly, its freefone - 0800 068 6069

Question is, is this for new accounts only, or any current account queries? On the site, its listed on all the different current account pages, so even if it is just for new accounts, its for any new current account, not just the Premier Plus, should also work for the Premier.

    Cheers
