I recently spent a small fortune on 2 electrical appliances from Curry's. I was told at the end of delivery day that the item wasn't on the lorry because there'd been a problem with the lorry and the men couldn't fit it in. I accepted a delivery later in the week. By the end of that day I received a voice message asking me to chose another item as it was no longer available. When going into the shop they said that the item was re-scheduled for 27th September delivery although they had never actually had any and they may not arrive until the end of October. They sold 40 appliances and all were due o be delivered but they don't even exist yet. That's of lot of money to take and a lots of lies!!!!!! I'm going in today to get my money back! Casual deceit is shameful.

As for Currys taking money for goods they don't have...
Do you realise that most of the fridges, cookers, washing machines, freezers, tumble driers, etc. that Currys sell probably go nowhere near Currys premises but are shipped direct from the manufacturer or distributor?
In other words, it is commonplace for Currys, and other retailers, to sell goods they don't have.0 -
Although I have very little time for Currys, selling stock that you do not physically possess is very common, and, generally, not done with intent to deceive, but for business efficiency.
If you insisted on having physical possession of every item you sold, you would have more money tied up in stock, and have to spend more on warehousing. You would also be able to offer lees choice.
Of course, it's possible that some retailers abuse the process and carelessly sell things that they are not reasonably sure the will receive (or will receive when expected), but unless a particular retailer has a lot of form for doing this it's hard to know whether they are being underhand, or are themselves subject to the vagaries of suppliers, deliverers, customs, etc. There are two types of people in the world: Those that can extrapolate information.0
