Buying new car and changing reg online?
I am finding the DVLA site a bit comnplicated, so a quick help would be appreciated.
I am buying a vehicle which is adapted for disability. The vehicle is 300 miles from me, so I cant collect..it will be delivered. It currently has a registration number but I have bought a personal number for it and have just received the certificate from DVLA.
I understand that once I pay for the vehicle, the seller sends off part of the V5C with my details on it to DVLA and states he has sold it to me. From the seller, I receive a slip off the V5C.....a V5C/2.
I understand things this far....
Now, I want the vehicle delivered to me in a couple of weeks with the new plates on it (assuming DVLA process my request in time).
That request is to change the existing reg to the new one..so, I presume I send the V5C/2 and the Certificate for the new reg to DVLA?...or can this be done online?
I also have a Certificate of Entitlement to a VEL, being disabled. In order to tax it, do I send this form to DVLA along with the above V5C/2 and Certificate for the new reg...or again, can this all be done online?
Any advice re this appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Both times I sent off the reg certificate before I paid for the car.0 -
Sorry DUTR, I don`t get it?0

What don't you get?
When I was purchasing my current and previous car, I sent the retention certificate to the dealer to authorise putting the plate on the car to be purchased, hence when I collected the car, it was already taxed to the correct registration.0 -
That explains your reply, however, the seller isnt a dealer, and I am doing all the paperwork myself in the hope that all I have to do is send the new plates to have them put on prior to delivery.0

If it's not a dealer the safest reliable way is to get the car in your possesion and then complete the paperwork for the changeover, yes you may lose a months ved, but that's minimal for peace of mind.0 -
Yes I do agree with you on that, but my post is about whether I can do certain things online.
If anyone can answer my questions I would be most grateful.
If online is not possible, I am hoping that once I receive the V5C/2, I can maybe just send the V5C/2, Certificate of Entitlement, Disablement entitlement form for the VEL, and any DVLA forms and payment to DVLA and just get everything done in a one`er !0 -
You can't assign the plate to a vehicle online, you have to send off the MOT certificate and the old V5 document so they can be destroyed and you are sent new ones with your private plate on.0

Thanks Dannyrst, thats all I need to know.0

No need to send the Mot certificate as already on the system. The car must also be taxed at the time of transfer. DVLA do not send out new Mot certificate only your new registration document. This info is correct as of last week when I switched my reg to private plates.0 -

Do you not get MOT certificates anymore then? Did I miss something?0
